danielj97
Yes, from personal experience I say this: Start small. Case in point, I wanted to make a weapon mod that has its own custom models and textures. I quickly ran into several roadblocks and still haven't released my "first" mod. I'd say just start with things that are already in game, its far easier and you usually know how yo fix it if it goes wrong. Starting too big ends in disaster, as I learned with my New Lands mod. It turned into a pile of crap, and I've released a half finished, buggy, ugly mod. >.> Still, it's good to have released it. :P
Crocutrax
Its not a bad thing to have the big picture in mind. Just make you you don't head for it too early. Then again, my advice may not be too great since I have never more than dabbled in modding any game.
TycoKnows
I too am trying to dabble in mods. To start I've read the tutorials on cs.elderscrolls.com and they helped immensely. The most difficult thing so far was getting comfortable with Oblivion's CS. The tutorials do a good job at explaining how it works and what it can do. The hard part is remembering all the options that are available to you. At first it is very slow navigating around a cell and figuring out how exactly to rotate/place an object. Once you develop the muscle memory and knowledge of the CS's toolkit, the modding gets much easier. The one thing I haven't touched on yet is scripting. It's what I'm most interested in, because I find that I enjoy NPCs with good AI infinitely more than a shiny new weapon or piece of armor. I hope that soon after release there will be some resources for beginner modders like ourselves. I'd love to write quests. Start small with a simple 1 or 2 stage quest, and over time expand that to an elaborate Skyrim wide quest. As other posters have said... the trick is to start small!
