hector530
, ill be able to pre-load and install the game the minute the clock hits 9pm (i live on the west coast) and play the game. I've heard it was midnight PST, where did you see midnight EST? Bethesda release rage at EST, also why would they release it on PST so everyone on the east coast could wait 3 hours to play? raymondNZdnd
>> Is steam really all that bad? From what I can tell -- when you can get Steam to work, then it works well. Of course I have no internet connection at home -- so Steam makes me want to blow a valve right at the moment. (humour!).. working at getting internet, but haven't heard back from the ISP for a fortnight! ((Many places have poor internet access, so in those places Steam is not appreciated -- either too expensive, or too long for downloads. In theory the game should be on the disk, so it should just need authentication connection, and maybe first day patch)) As they say -- your mileage may vary (or ttyf! ; ) ) there have been many threads about people's feelings towards Steam. mithikx
Well if you look at it Obsidian Entertainment developed New Vegas and Bethesda Game Studios developed Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Skyrim, I assume its an isolated issue. (Note developed (made) not published), alsothe modding issues with the Steam version of Oblivion were fixed (OBSE or OBMM or what ever wasn't working) and I'd assume Bethesda won't let it casually happen again. And the PC version is designed to work with Steamworks from the get go, the first and only Bethesda Game Studios title to do so from release (New Vegas was not their work). Aside from what happened to NV why all the Steam hate I never had any major problems with them (Did not play NV).I mean there's no crude /broken DRM to deal with (aside from being online on Steam) at the launch of the game (and there's offline mode).I don't have to worry about losing game discs or CD keys. And if you can't be bothered to Alt+Tab to browse something Steam has their in-game browser.Steam also allows you to take screenshots and save them for you to upload (if you want) to their servers for free.Lots of sales(discounts). No sales tax.Preload most games before launch. Only cons I ever experienced are these: (and they don't really affect me)Games are available/priced regionally. (i.e. Australia and a big chunk of Europe) (and to this day no one knows why.......)When a major title / patch is out the servers sometimes bog down completely during peak hours. (a little annoying truth be told)Hats. (Hats) Edited October 18, 2011 by mithikx

erikface
So, I've been out of the gaming loop for quite sometime. I understand that steam is an program that lets you download video games onto your pc. Why do people hate it?
robert01
People generally dislike Steam because they are known to have sweet ass deals that save you wheel barrels full of money. People do not like to save money, they like to spend spend spend on their games. In all seriousness the people that usually have a problem with Steam are the people that cant get(or won't get) a decent internet connection. They lose out on a lot of features that Steam has to offer(pretty much all of them depending on their connection). I myself have only had one issue with Steam and that was because my ISP is 30 different kinds of terrible, and Steam decided that my ISP provided router/modem(yeah it's one terrible unit), had features enabled that would lock me out of my account for 3 hours while I figure out which ones.
