IconicDeath
What kind of performance should I expect for Skyrim from this computer? And what about performance using lighting, texture, HD mods, and so forth.http://www.amazon.com/CyberpowerPC-Gamer-GUA3100A-Gaming-Desktop/dp/B0111MTSZ8?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_2&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
obobski
"Not awesome" - its not a bad machine, per se, but has fairly low-level/entry-level parts (which reflect its lower price; it doesn't look like you're being "duped" there or anything) that will impede performance (vs a higher end machine). Would I expect it to run Skyrim, however? Absolutely. But it probably won't run it on full-max-ultra at 4K with all 8K textures, the most demanding ENB add-ons known to man, and 250 mods. Some general idea of a "higher performance" machine these days: - AMD FX-8300 (or higher) or Intel Core i5-4600 (or higher)- GeForce 680/770/960 (or higher) or AMD 270/370 (or higher)- 8GB (or more) RAM These specs are extremely broad (and by no means represent the "minimum requirements" for Skyrim), but should point you in a better direction if you're after a higher-performance machine. If the one you linked is more in-line with your budget, the graphics card and CPU should be relatively easy to upgrade down the line as needed. The motherboard is a 760G chipset which are over 7 years old. They were released back with Phenom II, just had a new socket glued on. You will be getting shafted they are seriously crap boards. The CPU is prob OK I didn't really look at any specs after the motherboard.. If you want AM3+ the M5A97 Evo is pretty good value .... Edit..nah the GPU is inadequate too, only a R7 240 not made for games.. Should be 260 bare min......270 better. What's your budget? I decided to just build my own rig, I'm gonna get the parts in a couple months when I have the money. Thanks though!
Signette
I would stay away from AMD if you're not experienced in hardware enough. Sure, it's cheaper, but optimization in some games brutally suck and requires some tinkering like overclocking and software adjustments. Building rig highly depends on what it's purpose would be. For games and especially newer ones you really need cash and top/near top parts. For working purposes like design and 3D modelling - AMD hardware is perfect, cheap and powerfull, if you building rig for old games or ones with low requirments, mid range Intel + Nvidia parts are your friends here, prices should be relatively low and available. It's a refreshing change from the "AMD sucks" cliche often parroted around the internet.AMD's sleeping giant is Vishera 83xx, but to wake it up u need an API with MT support (DX11), proper coding and some overclocking skills.. :DThen you got yourself high performance at low cost, otherwise yep Intel is the way to go particularly when considering a quad. At home we have a stock i7 4770, 2 C2D's, an A8 (HTPC) and a 4.7Ghz FX 8320. The i7 is my partners and runs Photoshop, some games, the 8320 is mine used for gaming along with remote support and some VM plus occasional editing on occasion. GPU's are 7950 and GTX780Crysis3, FarCry3, Fallout 4, Photoshop etc many people wouldn't know which machine they were on without looking at the specs....both are great and AMD is great value here at half the cost of i7. But under light loads or running applications the 8320 can occasionally tank while the i7 will keep on trucking regardless... No command list implementation doesn't help either, but sounds like you already know that... I may be going out on a limb here but I have a hunch CFX performance on AM3+ is hampered by lack of command lists.
