Problem getting SI to work

Recently I wanted to have a fresh start with some new mods so I uninstalled and reinstalled oblivion. After I reinstalled it I noticed that the data file with all of the old mods in it was still there (one of them being colorwheels sexy oblivion overhaul, it was nice seeing women in mini skirts everywhere but it got old after a while).

So I deleted the old data file and reinstalled the game again. Then I noticed that the knights and shivering isles expansions werent showing up in the data file and obmm. I found the files in the bethesda sofworks folder in program files 86x (which is weird because i installed the game in documents instead). I moved the files over to the data folder and the knights and SI esp's were showing. Started up the game and tested it out without any mods to see if it was working correctly and while the Knights expansion works the SI quest line does not start up even though more than 3 days have passed in the game and my character got up to lvl 5. I did update the game with the 1.2.0416 patch for oblivion. So did I get the wrong patcher? Plus I have the game of the year edition so shouldn't the expansions had installed with the game in documents instead of in program files 86x (a little afraid to reinstall the game for fear of losing the expansions since a lot of the mods require SI). I also noticed that in the data folder that there wasn't a meshes folder and the textures folder only had a terrain noises file in it.

I dunno I am just very confused and have no idea what to do. I did all of this yesterday so can't really remember exactly how I did all of this.

Simple Test: Open console if you can, and type 'player.additem 5498d 1'. If SI is installed, it will give you a black finery, else you will see error message.

Note: Shivering Isles modifies Oblivion.exe and Oblivion.esm while installing. The SI plugin you saw is a dummy plugin for loading SI resources.

The game built in uninstall doesn't remove everything. It leaves behind quite a bit of stuff that cause problems later.

Here is a link to my complete uninstall/reinstall procedure located in the WIKI section of the Nexus

http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Oblivion_reinstall_procedure

It allows you to preserve any saves and mods, or remove them completely - your choice.

When installing the GOTY, The latest patch is on the SI installation and not on the Oblivion installation. If you install both, you will not need any other patches. If you don't want to play SI right away, just don't go through the door. - The door will still be there but until you actually go through it the SI quest doesn't start.

The advantage is any mod that requires SI will work fine whether you have started the SI quest or not.

Finally figured out what the problem was which makes me feel totally dumb. Along with not deleting everything related to oblivion after uninstalling it, I forgot that the game of the year edition comes with a second disc that contains both the Knights and Shivering Isles content (hence the reason it didn't work the first time). So I uninstalled, cleaned out my system of everything oblivion, reinstalled using both discs, and now everything is ok. Back to modding for me (this time with a clean data file back up  ).
