3DS Max crashing with trying to edit vanilla mesh

Hi- I used this mod page to get the nif support plugin for 3DS Max 2016 and it seems to be working fine when I open vanilla FO4 meshes, but when I try to edit the meshes (specifically deleting vertexes) it crashes the program. I can delete a few vertexes before it crashes but when I try to save the work it crashes anyway. I'm not really sure what I'm doing or why it's crashing. I'm kinda a dummy when it comes to 3D modeling even though I learned a bit in school. Any ideas?

 

Update:

So I got it to work by importing the meshes without the skeleton (Which I feel is wrong?? Is doing that wrong?) And now the file refuses to export. Just says "unknown error". I don't know what to do.
