FNV crashes every 20-30 minutes.

Recommended Posts

Hello, my name's Le0. I never post here but this has became such a big of a problem that hindered my enjoyment of the game that it was absolutely necessary to post here.

As the title says, I've been having a bit of a problem with my fallout new vegas. I've been crashing after 20-30 minutes usually whenever i enter/exit an interior or otherwise explore the wasteland.

Heres my load order --

This will help http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/53635/? (requires NVSE) as will this http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/55061/?

Also follow this guide, it's for TTW but the advice is good for just plain NV, especially the part about purging https://taleoftwowastelands.com/content/ttw-performance-guide

I have both of those yet I still crash every 20-30 minutes, but I'll take a look at the guide, thanks.

The guide might make the difference, purging the memory really helps, not only does it lessen crashing it also stops the game from slowing down over time.

What jim_uk said. Also:

* Issue: CTD on interior/exterior/"fast travel" cell change.
- Cause1: Most crashes on cell-change are caused by the autosave feature choking because it's trying to write data into a save it corrupted the last time you changed cells. Note this may mean your last several saves are corrupt. Auto-saves are dangerous because they are seldom able to tell when the game is in the middle of doing something else critical.

- Solution1: Most importantly, completely disable all manner of autosaves in the game options. [CASM] and [CASM with MCM] attempt to provide more control over such situations. They are better than the built-in mechanism, but don't rely upon any auto-save exclusively. Manual "full saves" after waiting about five seconds with nothing happening are still safest. Also, use [Clean Quick Saves] to create a new "quick save" file every time. You will need to periodically clean old ones out, but the purpose of a quick save is for a "temp" for safety's sake rather than a place to go back to. They do not save as much data as a "full save".

- Cause2: Crashes on cell transition will happen more often the more mods you have that affect NPC's & levelled lists.

- Solution2: You can't run different mods like that, reliably, without a "bashed" or "merged" patch. See [this article] for a description of both approaches.

That's a big improvement, and means most likely the crash is due to either a mod conflict or the game memory leaking. If the CTD repeats in the same location or under the same circumstances, then it is most likely a mod conflict. If not, then all I can suggest are some "fixer" mods which are listed in [this post], which is also what I recommend for mod conflict isolation.
