wizardmirth
Oblivion support is not responding and I didn't notice the vista disclaimer until after I bought horse armor and spell tomes. Is there any work-around on vista to getting the installers to work? I read the disclaimer 3 times and I still have no idea what it's saying. Sorry/thanks

Sorry/thanks  The only thing I've been able to come up with is to find an XP computer, install Oblivion and the official plugins. Then you can use the Oblivion Mod Manager to create omod files from the official plugins. The omods can be used on your Vista machine just like any other omod. Not an elegant solution, but it does work.
TheTerminator2004
Yeah, the reason they don't work is the security on the installer- it isn't compatible with the way Vista does things. Another way to do it, which would be cheaper if you don't have access to an XP computer, would be to get Linux, and use unshield to extract it all... that might not be an option if you don't want to install Linux, though :) Apart from that, I can't think of any way to get around it, sorry. wizardmirth
Thanks, I should be able to work that out on a friend's PC if I have to. But I recently discovered that KOTN comes with all or most of the official plugins. Since I got Oblivion to install and play on vista I'm thinking that if I bought the KOTN disc (as opposed to download) then I could get that and the individual plugins to work. Any possibility that wouldn't work you think?
TheTerminator2004
I have no idea, to be honest. If it uses the same security system, then no. Even if it doesn't, why waste money paying for it again, when you could just borrow a friend's computer?

My problem on Vista has been quite different: The tilde key doesn't seem to be recognized within the game to enter command line mode. Any one else having that problem? It is on an HP Pavilion. TheTerminator2004
There's a line in Oblivion.ini, something like benableconsole='. Make sure it's set to 1.
damstachizz
I run Vista Home Premium, ALL the DLC mods, and have had NO problems so far...then again, i always run Oblivion in XP compatability mode, with aero disbled (can write a small tut if you don't know how to do this)
TheTerminator2004
It's not Oblivion that has the problem, or even the DLCs themselves... it's the security header on the installer... I guess running them in XP compatibility mode might work, did you do that?
wizardmirth
Update - Got KOTN on disc and everything installed just fine on my vista premium -- in fact been too busy playing to come here and post! (Haven't tried XP compatibility mode - oh well/hell) Other - dcom mentioned command console doesn't work - having windows media center unplugged (remote receiver) will also resolve in case that may be an issue. :thanks: for everyone's suggestions & help.
