Next move for the NCR?

IMO the cannon ending is the legion taking the dam if the player is not involved, but if the player is involved it would be the NCR holding it.

Spoilers obviously.

1. The legion launches multiple attacks everywhere on NCR land. Without the player, the legion would have taken over the NCRs main base, and multiple other locations. The legion could easily slaughter the fiends as well.

2. Without the players help, camp mcarren would have been bombed and the NCRs monorail would have been destroyed.

3. The legion would completely destroy the people vegas since Mr. House wouldn't have any upgrades.

Now if the player is involved, it would make more sense for the NCR to win since you would counter all of the above actions, but you do very little really to help the legion. The legion should be able to win without your help due to superior strategy.

Then again, Mr. House could also be the cannon ending. The best ending to expand on the NCR would be the NCR holding the dam though.

The NCR either begins a lengthy retreat back towards their border in the Wild Card ending- leaving New Vegas to face the Legion alone.

In their ending, the NCR annexes New Vegas and bolsters defenses for a future incursion by the Legion.

I hope the canon ending is Legion. Let the "bad guys" win for once.

I don't mind the Legion winning as long as they get a re-write to make them the bad guys instead of the stupid guys. I mean, they forgot about the wheel. Seriously? The big evil is a group of dudes who don't know how round things work? They know how to repair revolvers but somehow the carts with wheels technology escaped them? How the heck did Caesar get these guys get past the second village they defeated and enslaved? You don't defeat the NCR by heaping your war supplies on the backs of women. Enough women to carry your war gear and supplies is just enough women to strangle all those Legion assholes in their sleep. Any less women-carried supplies and the Legion would be starving to death two days out of Flagstaff. We're supposed to take these guys seriously?

I don't consider there to be any good guys in the Fallout universe because none of the factions are written as good. The interviews I've seen with the Obsidian staff seem to further the idea that they think life is shades of grey and there is no black or white. So everyone gets to be dicks! Whee! :wallbash: It's called pathos and drama in today's lexicon. I call it bad writing. Let's see exactly how that bad writing affected our heroic factions, shall we?

The Brotherhood of Steel? Arrogant pricks who want all the tech and are afraid to come out of their bunker. Probably 'cause of all the rain. In the desert. That and they might get attacked by the NCR again. Yes, that NCR, the ones who are supposed to be their allies, but are too busy being solar-power chasing dicks to adhere to the ill-defined canon.

NCR? Bumbling imperialist tax-hungry expansionists who cosplay as World War 1 soldiers.

Legion? Warmongering slavers. Scratch that, DUMB warmongering slavers.

Mr. House? Techno dictator with a tech diaper. Needs a shave. And a haircut. Obviously evil.

Yes Man? Gettin' his'self an aggression upgrade 'cause right now he's too goddamn happy. Obsidian says "NO!" to happy, thus; future a**hole.

Follower of the Apocalypse? Whiny doo-gooders who get pushed around. Ok, not evil, just ineffective. Poor, poor, future underdog socialists. Cry for them 'cause Obsidian wants you to. I think they're assholes. Crybaby assholes.

Enclave? Well, they're dead and defeated and scattered to the winds on the west coast... so yeah, they're assholes too. Somehow.

Great Khans? Drug-running has-beens whining about getting their asses kicked by cosplayers. More than once. Their almost-successful courtship with the Legion shows why they lost to the cosplayers. 'Cause they're dumb assholes.

The Boomers? They rock. Shut up, this fact is non-negotiable. They're so good they're awesome. But they love guns so this makes them a**hole in the eyes of Obsidian. I mean, look at how their history is presented. They can fix simulators but they can only remember a half-baked exodus story about having to leave a vault 'cause they wanted to shoot guns and blow stuff up? Please.

Did I miss anyone? If so, they're written as assholes. All of 'em. >:(

Personally I'd like Mr. House to retain New Vegas and the Hoover Dam, as long as they retcon that asinine part about him having the Mohave BOS destroyed. 'Cause that's just dumb and House isn't dumb. I mean, come on; look at that tech diaper. Dumb didn't build that thing; genius did. You know you want one. He doesn't have to leave the computer when playing his games. I know you're jelly. Put on your man-pants (or your woman skirt, whatever) and admit it.

I cant tell if troll or just ***hole(hehe see what i did there?)

But seriously I really dont find any of the factions to be badly written, poorly implemented because of too many backstory changes and too many people maybe, but not poorly written. The NCR and BoS war is canon before Fallout: New Vegas its mentioned in Fallout 3 and originated in the original Fallout 3 which is where most of New Vegas's story comes from.

As for the NCR....If they find the Big Empty or the Sierra Madre then the post nuclear midwest is screwed. Its likes giving a child a grenade.

Come on Fallout 4 come out and tell us who wins already!

I stand by what I said and I wasn't trolling; I was trying to put throw some humor into a serious problem I see with the writing of New Vegas. The problem? There's no hope in the Wasteland. Everyone is either ineffectual or evil in some way. No good allowed.

Fallout: New Vegas is a great game with decent writing if you don't try to go past the surface of what they shovel at you. If you want more than caricatures then you're in for some trouble. Everybody is flawed in a bad way because that makes them all evil, making all choices essentially the same, making all factions essentially the same. Nobody is flawed in a good way (like being too honorable), and that keeps them all in the gray, and thus evil in some way. Well, the Followers are kinda flawed in a good way, and it's that they're soooo kind that they have trouble defending themselves and junk. They could be interesting if they were more than a faction to by sympathetic with. As it is, they're still evil because they (SPOILER ALERT) ask you cover up a murder so the poor, downtrodden masses of poor, poor Freeside refugees (and doing-pretty-ok Westside) can get more water. 'Cause the evil NCR is keeping all the water for themselves, the greedy, nasty, imperialistic poopyheads. So, the Followers are also evil.

No good. No hope. Just tragedy and shades of evil. Death, greed, shifting alliances, betrayal of former allies, and no way for the player to ignore it all and go back to being a simple courier. Because that simple and quite logical decision isn't something Obsidian wanted you to be able to do. And Fallout: New Vegas is nothing, if not a list of choices that Obsidian wanted you to make, and not a banquet of choices you might make if you had true free will.

Next move for the NCR is to stop being ninnies and pound the sh*t out of the Legion, New Vegas, and do whatever they want... 'cause that's how it's gonna be written. 'Cause Obsidian thinks the NCR is made up entirely of douchebags, so they're going to act like douchebags with an army, a large stick up their ass, and a chip on their shoulders. If Obsidian didn't think that way, then the NCR's actions would have been written differently.
