Download Issues

For some reason, and this has been going on for a while now, all my downloads from The Nexus are turned into .7z files. Even files that aren't .7z. The original extensions are erased, and it's only through trial, error, and sometimes sheer luck that I manage to get the right ones edited back in. Does anyone know why this is happening, or better yet, how to stop it?

Just some information that will help-

I'm running the latest version of Opera, and I'm saving all these files to a New Vegas mod folder on an external 1TB Seagate HDD.

When you save the mods, do you get a dialog box asking where to save the file and what to name it? Have you made sure that the file ends with .rar or .zip when you click save? Do you have your folder view set to show extensions of known file types?

Regarding the last question, if you are not set to see the extensions, and 7zip was the last archival tool that you installed, then all the archives would be associated with that tool even though the extension would be something other than 7zip. To show the extensions, depending on your OS you would go into control panel and choose folder options, then click on view and scroll down to find the box that is listed as show extensions of known file types. In all likelihood if you have never changed this, the default would have the tic mark removed. Tic the box and then look at your files to see what the real extension is.
