Is this a good build?...

I'm planning on making a Breton battlemage and I need a bit of help choosing the skills I should focus on,

I want to work more on combat instead of magic and just use spells when I need to.

One handed

Block

Destruction

Alchemy

Light or Heavy Armour (Haven't decided yet)

Illusion

Sneak

Alteration.

That's the skills I've chosen so far, Is there any other builds you would recommend or is this a good build?.

1h+Block+Destro is sort of suboptimal now, because you can have only two hands. Basically I expect battlemages will go 1h sword + magic and ditch Block OR actually just go block+magic, at which point you're an armored mage more than a battlemage, but eh.

1h sword+magic is what Ill do, and use spells for protection. (Alteration is a fine pick, but its probably a bit redundant with Block, given it can summon magical shields)

Same deal with Sneak and Illusion. With the perks now we gotta make hard choices, and getting sneak is probably not worth it anymore for a mage build. You can get all the sneak goodness from Illusion and Invisibility spells anyway. Sneak is probably best left to thiefs, assassins, archers and pickpockets now, but YMMV. Its main use over invisibility is the sneak attacks, and those dont work with magic. Illusion has plenty of other nice extras, soo...

1h weapons

Destruction

Alteration

Illusion

Restoration (Kinda important for the huge Mana regen feat)

Enchanting or Alchemy, still a toss up.

Light armor

That'll be my build. I may try to scrounge a few points in Conjuration too depending on the math. Those bound weapons are sweet...

Yep, but I guess OP was asking about what skills to concentrate on.

Me, I'll go for One handed, Block, Destruction, Alteration, Restoration, Speechcraft, maybe Smithing and/or Alchemy.

Enchanting might be good, but I have to see what can I loot.

Sneak will be developed as "side ability" as I snoop around.

If I understand properly, that will not be a "build" in skyrim. In skyrim you will be picking a stream of perks, rather than picking generic categories. And you pick them where you used to be picking your attribute multipliers (and with no attributes for multipliers we will not be doing that attribute picking either).

But, weapon set switching will apparently be a lot easier (so you can have one set for opening attacks, another for close combat, another for when you are exhausted (low on fatigue), a defensive set for running away and/or healing, and so on) and they should be simple to manage. So, hypothetically speaking, the kinds of skills you have outlined here could all be useful together.

But my guess is that they have buried a lot of hidden features to assist you, whichever path you take (and a bunch of others that you will have to ignore because you choose a different path). So unless you deliberately make levelup choices to make your life harder, I imagine you will have a good build and one that favors the sort of tactics that you most frequently employ.

So, from my point of view, finding a good build really requires you to be experimenting with things you enjoy doing. Maybe eventually, people will have a comprehensive view of the possibilities and come up with some min-maxing that is valid. But I would bet that many of the initial posts about how to min-max will be woefully ignorant of the possibilities (and, thus, likely to be giving advice which [if followed] would leave you less powerful than if you just dove in to the game and played).

I will be investing in Block early... make sure that nothing can hurt me. I love walking out of battles without receiving a hit.

Then I will be shield bashing dragons in the face.
