Don't get angry, get organised! (Stolen mods)

I like a simpler solution.

I think it will only work for small families though.

Parents who have modded can make some for their children to play on the console.

Keep it at home.

And when the child gets older they can do, if they like, like many of us did in kindergarten. Make something for Mom or Dad to show them we share their caring nature.

The rest of the world who want attention for mod's, or to draw interest to their company products, which brought the gamers to their businesses web sites, can keep sharing theirs here and there, or at more risky mod sharing sites.

If you're afraid  of getting your mods stolen, lock them up in a safe disconnected computer, down in your own private Vault Tech vault, :nuke: and don't tell anyone :ermm: where your private family bomb shelter is. :nuke:

We seem that we have drifed away from the original reason of this thread. How do we solve this, at least in the short term.

I think that using a sort of skript that causes a pup-up msg on consoles would work. Make it a permanant pop-up untill the mod in question is uninstalled. Have the popup go away or not show up if the person has NVSE/F4SE. Since script extenders are only on PC. Then when the mod is ready for console, take out the script That is the only idea I have for now.

Now I know very little about coding so as a preface, feel free to flame me if this idea is retarded or w/e but im just putting it out there.

I posted this in another thread but wouldn't it be possible for modders to write their mods a certain way that requires a script to act as an "unlock key" for the mod otherwise once installed the player will just get pop ups or something? Then work with nexus to include that "unlock key" script in the nexus mod manager itself?

It would be entirely up to the mod author if they want to use this method or not but if they wanted the extra security they could have it.

This would also prevent PC mod theft as well I think because even if they just downloaded the mod from the authors page it would not work if reuploaded. A thief would have to actually find the key in the mod manager as well as in the authors mod and if its confirmed that the key has been found nexus could just update the mod manager with a new key and pm trusted authors about how to use it.

If this is a stupid idea then everyone gets a laugh. If it isn't then I've contributed so I feel good about myself either way today.

You know, it's one thing when somebody makes a financial gain from using your work without your permission, but say I take the Blink mod from Skyrim, pull it apart to figure out how it works, jump through all of the programming hurdles to rebuild the mechanics of the mod in Fallout 4, and put a very unique spin on it so that it only vaguely resembles the source material, but you can still see bits of the original's DNA in it. If I'm unable to contact the original author and get their express consent, am I going to find myself in the middle of a veritable shitshow when all I wanted to do was make something cool?

First of all, if you mean the site I think you mean, the word is "risque". Or maybe you did mean that it's dangerous to go there, I dunno.

And it's not that we're attention seeking whores... Well, not all of us, anyway. We're people who want to share our works for a game we love with people who share our interests. And we don't want someone taking our files, removing our name from it, slapping theirs on, and asking for money from it. If you can't understand that, then you aren't on the same page as actual mod authors and need to just sit on the sidelines and watch, because you literally don't have any way to have an informed opinion on the matter.

Sorry if that seems harsh, but I'm really tired of being called names, here, just because I think it's wrong that people are taking credit for things they didn't create, trying to get donations for what amounts to stolen goods, and that were originally shared by people who only wanted to make something fun and interesting for others to play. And then insulting people who have a problem with them being thieves.

Yeah. And we modders. We're the problem. Right.

No! I meant in the simplest sense, legal sense of, Risky, as in: taking a chance.

I learned to mod too. I would share, but I planted secrets of ancient cults in my home Vvardenfell mod so I could have fun pretending I was an, a 40 something, old archaeologist. I was doing that before the man who took the family dogs name as his code name was. You may know Harry. Not Henry Ford's son. Maybe a great, great, great grandson of Hank Ford?

Risque? Darn? I may not have that link. I have nerves that are dead due to war injuries and have to have to go to extraordinary effort to get turned on. I prefer the health clinic masseuse :woot: who gives me a complete body massage for the same price as a prostitute. Prostitutes often charge as much, or more, for doing ten push ups on top of her just to get a tube steak massage.

And I learned to mod too. I would share, but I planted secrets of ancient cults in my home Vvardenfell mod so I could have fun pretending I was not just another failed attempt at being some sort of family man, I could pretend I was an healthy, energetic go getting seeking from where Merlin left off seeking the Philosopher's stone.

Okay so maybe I was a bit harsh, and I stated as much in my post initially. This is just a really touchy subject and people don't ever seem to be in the middle, rather they're usually one one side or the other, bashing people here or there, and the only common ground seems to be people are mad. So I hope I didn't offend.

And I'm just going to ignore the way too much information paragraph, there. Because reasons.
