Casputin
Remember, "Your Lawyers made you say that." You just hit what I've been trying to say this whole time. People keep taking Bethesda to task because it hasn't been made clear that this is all stuff that's coming down from Zenimax. These are the same people who preemptively sued Notch for trying to trademark the word "Scrolls". Coming soon: Zenimax try to claim the word "game" is their IP. Deleted54170User
I think both Bethesda Softworks and Zenimax should have used the idea which NVIDIA came out with a few days ago for modders. It would have saved them from getting a lot of hostilities and even gotten them praise for the attention. Nvidia is holding a Contest for Modders of Fallout 4. Actually, NVIDIA's mod contest may be partially responsible for creating a bigger reason for stolen mods to be uploaded - people trying to win the prize on someone else's merits and labor. For some without good morals or ethics, or is just a greedy immature ponce, that prospect is mighty tempting. Do you know from your own experience, maybe while hanging out with other people in a public place, that the anyone was excited by Nvidia's announcement to members of their forums? I'm a member of that forum too. I've been advised that it is inappropriate to make an offensive statement (even a minor one) which I have no grounds to prove. I made a proposal that suggests a way to make peace by my method. The process which contestants must go through to be able to get into the contest would make that difficult for thieves. They have to give their real names, real addresses, and valid proof of ownership. I wonder how Nvidia would handle the situation if they discovered their rules were violated that way? Deleted54170User
monetary gains always encourage criminal actions like this if it's perceived as low risk, and criminals are not necessarily known for their foresight or intelligenceso it's very possible I assure you that I know how it feels to be robbed of my work. Very possible?! I understand the futility of debating on this subject that you may, or may not, know for a fact; which is often repeated on shows where people pretending to be law personnel don't know anything for a fact about what they are saying in their lines but say it to get paid for their acting. I'm sorry you find the Nvidia offer unappealing and have not signed on yet so you will be busily happy making a mod which could win you very useful prizes. blaze1514
We seem that we have drifed away from the original reason of this thread. How do we solve this, at least in the short term.I think that using a sort of skript that causes a pup-up msg on consoles would work. Make it a permanant pop-up untill the mod in question is uninstalled. Have the popup go away or not show up if the person has NVSE/F4SE. Since script extenders are only on PC. Then when the mod is ready for console, take out the script That is the only idea I have for now.
Jeoshua
In the short term, we can implement tools which make it easier to identify mod theft. I have a solution, and the link is in my signature. An example is forthcoming, and the technique is sound. Best of all, it does not weaponize mods, does not require any DLC or F4SE linking if you don't want it, and doesn't even require that the downloader be aware that their mod has been so tagged. Please, enjoy. And don't be a douche.
Gungho1
I wonder if Beth are going to actually announce console mods for Skyrim. If so, I'd suggest that the way to get the message to them is a mass boycott of Beth.net for FO4 mods, even if only for a few days. The odds are in favour of the games media picking up on it, as well as some numpty actually poaching a mod off Nexus and putting it up on Beth.net, which would clearly show why the action has been taken by the mod authors. Remember, Zenimax/Beth introduced Beth.net for their benefit, not yours, although it is part of their trend towards favouring console gaming (the steady consolification of game UI's, and now the consolification of their own forums). If you don't send the message loud and clear, and unequivocally, now, you won't have a chance to later, because it only takes a lot of little steps to make up one big unchangeable problem. I'd also suggest doing in during E3, that way Beth can get to tap dance in front of the entire games media and games industry, and they will be asked questions, guaranteed.
