kalimarr
Hi all, Is it possible to move into an NPC house with the help of mods? For example, I killed Agarmir in one of the early quests involving Thoronir and his inventory etc etc... i have the key to his house so can i now use say "Safe Containers" mod and cast it on all the chests/desks/barrels etc? Also can i just drop stuff in the house, not in any storage container ie chests and still rely on it being there later? Or would stuff dropped outside of chests dissapear due to it not being my house ie i didnt buy it. Any help?
Abramul
The Grey Index remembers. As for your second question, check that the current ones don't respawn, and if necessary, add new containers that don't respawn. You'll also want to check if the cell resets or not; I don't believe this affects containers one way or the other.
Vagrant0
Typically, you shouldn't use NPC houses for that reason, there's no real way to know what containers respawn or not. Using the cell, or the containers can also be treated as a criminal act, and lead to problems later. Additionally NPC owned cells are more likely to be flagged as old data, and completely refreshed if you havn't been there in a long time. I'm not sure what that mod does, but wouldn't considder it a good idea. There are plenty of good player houses available, both in game and through mods. Taking a house like that just doesn't end well, and really isn't too practical. If you were really interested in taking that house, you would likely have to make some adjustments to that cell in the CS to make it work right. kalimarr
Sorry to necro this thread but I wanted to bounce this idea off some experts... Playing again after a year and I came up with the following ideas and wondered if they would work... and not bug the game. I used the 'setownership.player' (or something similar) on all the doors so I wouldnt be accused of breaking in or trespassing by guards. Used the same command for all the cells named in Agarmirs house (main, top floor and basement... this seemed to work as all the items that had the 'red icon' when I hovered over them turned white. If I use Renneers Chest Overhaul (correct name?) or 'Make it safe' would that make the chests safe? For the cells themselves... would I have to turn the 3 day respawn off to prevent these changes being reverted or all the furniture being re-arranged? It's a bit lengthy but I think I've covered as many points as I could. But without extensive play testing for long term effects I dont know. Just wanted to share cos if this works then it may be possible to move into any NPC's house (as long as they're dead!). I also liked Glarthir's (sp?) in Skingrad with the tower jutting out and wouldnt mind owning that!
bben46
Here's a suggestion. Make a save and try it. Go ahead and leave stuff around, add furniture if you have a mod for that , make the chests safe and put stuff in them. Then leave and use the time function to make about five game days pass. Go back in and see what happened. Then reload the save you made and play from there. Let us know what you find. Just post it here. Thread necromancy is allowed if you have some new info or a different approach that needs the old posts to make it clear. This is covered under that exception. MalachiDelacot
There is a mod that lets you buy Umbil...Umb...Ubal....damn...the guy that gives you the statue quest...any way, his house. I bought his place after he was killed and was able to move in. Lots of nice stuff that is now yours and you get to keep the annoying butler and the guards. You can always pawn stuff you don't want and pretty much get your money back.Ok, so I'm too lazy to look his name up.

I made myself a mod that allowed me to move into the crazy guy in Skingrad's house, it worked great, I just used the CS to change all the containers, cells, and bed! to be owned by the player/player faction, and stopped all the containers from respawning. Without the CS it's really not going to be very effective. Someone has released a mod that makes Agamir's place belong to the player, I saw it a while back. If Agamir's the graverobber guy. If you want a nice Imperial city apartment or townhome, there are three really nice ones in Talos plaza I can think of off the top of my head, along with a beautiful suite in the Tiber Septim (love suite) so that's four actually. There are more all around town. Just do a search on TesNexus for Oblivion Mods/Buildings/ (in the drop down boxes) and then "Imperial City" or "Talos Plaza" in the DESCRIPTION not the NAME. Bben46 Moderator I'm gonna give it a try again with my new char. I guess I could use the CS to make the changes but I don't mind doing it on the fly in the console (that way its not a persistent for all my chars - I have several characters that I play depending on my mood) - but I don't know if the changes will 'stick' if done thru the console. I will do as you suggest... then I guess its just a matter of letting a few game days pass and see what happens? Will report back at some point unless some one beats me to it...
