xaliqen
Family ties? Not for this free-roaming Argonian, thank you very much! "Well, so I know your renown's been rising for awhile now and... I... Well, I've just been wondering if you might like to settle down?" "Settle down? And what would this entail exactly?" "Well, you'd come over and sleep in the same bed with me in my house, other Argonians would flirt with you less, people would start to see you as more stolid than heroic, you'd become heavily involved in things like mortgages and carriage payments, my relatives would send gentle hints that you should support their growing progeny in Black Marsh, that whole 'adventuring' thing would have to be moderated a bit, my mother would come to visit and suggest you get on with producing little Argonians, my father would want you to attend his sport matches, you could become the muscle behind our long-running dispute with the Khajiit who poach our salmon, you could even start a real job like owning that lovely furniture shop in the village...." "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo... No. No. No.... No." Edited October 28, 2011 by xaliqen

chikawowwow
"Well, so I know your renown's been rising for awhile now and... I... Well, I've just been wondering if you might like to settle down?" The part I quoted, it's a choice like you say. You can or you can choose not to. That said, at some point I will try it to either RP or to see how the mechanics of it work. It also doesn't stop adventuring- it aids it as you can take your spouse with you as a companion. I for one appretiate the choice and will see how it plays out, but it isn't a priority.
jedimembrain
I think thats exactly why they made it optional and didn't over sell it like fable did .. For those of us who find it immersive its a wonderful thing to have the option to do..if It were not there it would just make the world feel a little more fake... Its these extra touches that help this dungeon crawling fantasy world feel real... just like wood chopping and iron smelting or getting drunk in a bar. Jermungand
I thought I heard someone on the forum say that you needed to wear a special amulet to start a romance. Is that true? PLEASE tell me that isn't true. It would feel SO out-of-place, if that were true.
chikawowwow
Their lead art designer said it, he also confirmed vampires before people took it as gospel. I hope not too, although if the amulet is in the symbol of 'the artist formally known as prince' I will let it off.
jedimembrain
it depends on how it works in game .. they really havn't given details on the amulet at all .. just that you need one to get married .. could be like a wedding ring in skyrim. RevanGrad
Not like it would hinder your adventuring at all its nice to have a home in games like these I always make one on the construction set. A home base is essential for storing loot, extra weapons, and I for one have made it a hobby to kill one gaurd from every city and then put their shield on my wall as a souvenir. The only difference now is that there is some one there to alert me of the impending zombie apocalypse... Or just intruders that want to attack me for whatever reason while im in my house. Adrius2
Hmm... so if we marry someone with a nice house can we move in there? I feel manipulative schemes growing in my head...
EnterSevenSeven
If you have to use an amulet to start a romance, then that could be a game mechanic to "speed up" the relationship process with an in-game description of it "attracting love interests when worn". The whole relationship system can't be too in-depth like we all hope it could be. Edited October 28, 2011 by Enter_77
