Does anyone know how the sea looks in Skyrim?

 

Will it be the usual (Oblivion/Fallout) style, flat, slightly rippled water or will it be fully animated with waves etc? I really want an arctic stormy ocean crashing into rocks with proper waves. Asking too much I think.

 

Anyone seen any screenshots of the coast?

Makes me sad:(

I'v seen the kind's of waves that should be on those coastlines- I live near the north sea, and I can assure you... it's no millpond!

 

Bethesda have created different types of water etc for different areas (pictures of some geothermal pools somewhere, the water is clear and blue, not like the murky river water) but that's just a shader- I don't know if it animates any differently... It can't be too hard to make animated waves, cry engine 2 does it wonderfully (water isn't interactive though, boring 2d sprite for ripples etc from character)

Well they have got a current in the rivers apparently... so I reckon it wouldn't be to difficult with a bit of coding (probably 1 line or less!) to make the movement... 3d waves would be much harder though, the current ripples are just a shader- making the water move in 3d would have harder- although it runs of havok... but I reckon that's wishfull thinking!

Skyrim doesn't use any DX11 features and will not have crysis2 quality water :P .. sorry .. it will look more or less like the water in F3 from what Ive seen in all the demos .. There are new river effects and they are using some interesting tricks in making waterfalls and streams (like what was demoed in the caves) .. they are just using an alpha texture and some shiny normal maps animated along the floor .. a trick Ive used myself a few times and looks great .. but its not going to effect the ocean at all .. that will likely be the same as previous games.
