Wearing NotN Armor

DB will give you armour but in fact it doesn't actually matter what you wear.

I know but I asked the question about NotN armor because I have had a couple of warning messages about being able to wear the NotN stuff because of what I was doing. I mean when I start killing folks would not that violate the knightly code? I have some great Daedric armor that I can enchant and use that just as well.

The Thieves' Guild and Dark Brotherhood are sure-fire ways to gain Infamy and thus deny you the use of the KotN armor. Infamy not only directly through your in-game actions, but through completing their quests.

Odd thing is, you gain more Infamy by completing Thieves' Guild missions than completing Dark Brotherhood contracts (stemming from the fact you need to pass certain milestones of fencing stolen goods before unlocking a Thieves' Guild mission). Being an honorable thief who doesn't steal from the poor nor kills the innocent is a far more grievous offense than being a paid assassin in Cyrodiil.

A good assassin is well-known and feared by the masses. A great assassin is unknown and loved by the populous.

OK I have planned to do the thief guild and the DB and not using any of the KotN stuff. If at the end of the two guild's quests and having my fame still higher than my infamy can I then put the NOtN back on to do the main quest?

After you've been a bad little boy hanging around with the thieves and assassins, you will simply have to re-take the Pilgrimage of the Nine in order to wear the KotN gear again. The Pilgrimage wipes out Infamy.

Yeah I was figuring on something like that but was thinking that there was a infamy limit so that as long as it was not higher than my fame it would be alright. So you are saying that if I wear the NotN stuff I would re do the shrines, and if I do not wear the stuff I still have to do the shrines, right? I think for the bad guy stuff I will wear my lt. currass that lowers my visibility and carry less for the stealing and use the daedric armor I have for the DB. I just do not like the idea of using the stuff in these quests. This is one of the bad things about this game. The guild and quest structure in MW was so much better. I think the order that I do things in the next game will be a bit different.

My problem is that I have to do the good guys (fighter and Mage) then as many of the daedric quests as I can. It becomes difficult to play if my infamy gets higher than my fame. I guess I have not figured out how to lower the infamy using the game system so in the past I used the console. I feel very uncomfortable in doing this. It could end up with me not playing for awhile because I hate using the console to do this. I could also add some other quest like the spires quest and some other "do good" stuff. The problem is I like the bad guy stuff and the final quest ion the thief guild is great so maybe no DB. At this point I have been playing this game from When it came out till now and I might need a break but I love it so much so I don't know what a guy is to do.

Bear in mind, only the Knights of the Nine have this big stink about your Infamy. The Fighters' and Mages' Guilds don't care if your Infamy is higher than your Fame.

Only conflicts you'd have with them is if you tried to join those guilds with a bounty on your head (they won't let you sign on), or you you start killing/stealing from guild members (they kick you out).

  • 3 weeks later...

I go thieves guild before DB so you can wear the Grey Cowl while you do the really evil stuff and the infamy just gets added to the cowl.

Use poison apples and a enchanted bound helmet if you want to avoid a high murder count.

If you have 9 Armor and put on the Cowl you can't wear the armor till you take it off.

If you need to do some evil the 9 won't know it's you while you wear the Cowl.
