chucksteel Posted June 13, 2016 Share Posted June 13, 2016 This is not a debate about Mod theft or asset theft but, today I was trying to help someone new to modding get there first mod released. They had it all cleaned and ready but when they tried to upload the mod it wanted a texture for the world map that they had not edited in the mod.It took me some time to figure out but it turned out that they had a map mod which edited the vanilla map texture. The files were loose in their texture folder and the Ckit wanted to pack the texture with their mod because they had edited the Commonwealth worldspace.I'm not saying this mistake is the cause for all asset theft but with the influx of new modders there may be some that are making this mistake. Example would be if I have a mod mesh/texture replacer for some armor. I make a mod that edits that armor and have the loose replacer files in my data folder the CKit will pack them with the mod.just saying some may be inadvertently redistributing your files because they don't know any better and think that the vanilla assets are being packed. WhiskeyRiver2 Posted June 13, 2016 Share Posted June 13, 2016 We've run into this twice with Modern Firearms - the first time when Sheep accidentally included part of the Stahl Arms 10mm retex, and again just a few days ago when I accidentally uploaded... something else (not sure what - if anyone snagged a screenshot, please send it to me so I know for sure) that apparently "stripped the paint" off the 10mm. I know for a fact nothing in either version of MF touched the 10mm pistol in any way, so there was no logical reason for the CK to pack those files into the Textures .ba2, thus neither of us thought to look for them. DDProductions83 Posted June 13, 2016 Share Posted June 13, 2016 You should really make your own archives, but if you are going to use the in-CK one, just make custom mesh/texture/sound etc folders for the file you are modding. I mean, it might explain some instances of minor resources being appropriated accidentally, but it doesn't explain the people trying to sell the works of others, or the ones who rail against the "PC Elitists" as if stealing from the Nexus was some great moral crusade of theirs. Assets may be getting redistributed because the CK thinks the mod adds them. I'm saying it's sometimes an accident and not always intentional theft!!!! I also said this is not a debate about theft. But ya the CK has packed the wrong things forever, you know how much vanilla and SKSE stuff got into MBI when certain numnuts used CK packer (IM LOOKING AT YOU BIG AND DI0) I had to keep cleaning the BSA lol.
