SirFrank114
That's the message I've beeen getting for awhile now when I exit the game. Everything is stuck and I need to do to the Task Manager" to shut it down. One thing I noticed on the Task Manager is I have "2" programs! Both titled Oblivion. One says "working" the other says "not working". The not working has the familiar Oblivion Icon. The working has an icon I can't locate. Looks like there is a conflict as to what's closing the game down. Any suggestions on this one?
Lanceor
Oblivion does tend to crash whenever it feels like it. Even on a powerful system with the game fully optimised for stability, you still get the occasional crash. The two windows probably belong to the game itself and the pop-up dialog saying that the game has crashed. Anyway, this site has an exhaustive list of things you can do to get Oblivion running more stably.
Delikatessen
Can you give more details? What are you doing ingame when it crashes? Are you using mods? Something that's always worked for me was to redo the load order or delete the configuration files and rebuild them using the launcher. Also, certain processes will conflict with it, such as anti-virus programs. This was especially bad when I used McAfee :verymad:
bben46
For some obscure reason, Bethsoft games in general don't crash like anything else. The 'Oblivion has stopped working' is one of those. It seems to bypass all of the safety crash features built into Windows and does it's own thing. These crashes usually result in having to not only use the Ctrl-Alt-Del, but to do it several times to find the right combination of what to do to actually get Oblivion to close and return you to Windows. I have found that WindomEarles crash prevention helps quite a bit in cutting down the frequency of crashes. And Fast Exit 2 completely stopped crashes when exiting the game. But nothing has entirely stopped crashes - save often it will help prevent game rage. Windom_ Earles : http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22282Fast Exit 2: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22410
SirFrank114
Thanks to all of you for the hints and links. The Windom_Earls patch did the trick for me and was very easy to install, although the instructions WERE a little confussing. I'll try to pass this knowledge on if I see the chance in the future. We can't depend upon you VERY WISE ONES forever. We need to all carry the ball. Thanks again.
