BlackRampage
Where did you install it? And did you patch your game to the 1.7 patch?
Arthill1988
Well I got the clean install to work by deleting my Fallout.ini file. I am installing mods now. I also followed the instructions from this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDUyCZMcElk&feature=related I am not sure if it helped but it does not seem to have hurt it. I am keeping this bumped in case anyone else has this same issue and they need help. Hopefully they can benefit from my experience and trial and error along with the help of everyone who contributed to this post.
Arthill1988
BlackRampage, I have installed it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common It seems to have run fine from that location after I deleted my Fallout.ini folder. I have been told the GOTY version from steam has the newest update. I cannot be sure though
Werne
@Arthill1988 Yes, GOTY has patch 1.7. Try disabling the archive invalidation and run the game. I had a similar problem with FO3 crashing instantly after loading screen.
Arthill1988
I did actually get the game running with that disabled. I did not play extensively but I got to the baby steps part of the game with no crashes. I am now trying to get my mods working. I have downloaded what is supposed to be load order optimizer called BOSS. I am not sure how this works. I ran the application part and at the end of the page it said nothing conflicted. Arthill1988
Update: With that mod order, minus the unofficial patch related content ( I need to figure out where that goes. And somehow get FOSE installed correctly) it appears to be working. EDIT: I switched around the load order and now it works with the unofficial patch content. Werne
@Arthill1988 So, does it work without archiveinvalidation?
Arthill1988
No. I needed to activate that for it all to work. As of right now, everything seems to be working ok. I was able to get into the game and create a character just fine. I looked at the options that came with the mods, play around with the camera and such. No crashes as of yet. I think I am going to call it a success. After nearly 20 hours of tweaking and re doing things, I think I finally got it to work. One key thing I think,(should anyone see this with the same problem) was that I deleted my Fallout.INI file and let the game create a new one. Thank you all again for your help in this matter. I could not have done this without you guys. I greatly appreciate it. Take care
Werne
Yeah, playing around with the .ini file can mess up your game. I had even worse problem. After defragmenting my hard drive my Fallout_default.ini got corrupted and messed up the game completely. Thank god I backed up my files.
