Skyrim Region Lock ?!

Hi,

I'm a bit shocked right now. Apparently Skyrim retail copies come with a region lock that makes it impossible to activate the game outside the country where you bought it. And I'm not talking USA and Europe, but innereuropean countries.

I wrote and email to both Steam and Bethesda, no response. The Steam Forums are down, possibly related to the issue. There is no viable official information whatsoever.

I need to know whats going on, so I can cancel my UK order if nessescary.

If this turns out to be true, it wouldn't just be a giant middle finger to the customers but also a clear violation of innereuropean trade laws.

Does ANYONE know ANYTHING about this?

If they lock between EU countries they'll find themselves paying a very large fine, there was a link on Beths board to a tweet from Hines who says that the PC version isn't locked, someone asked him about playing the English version in Spain or something like that.

Exactly what is your source for this?

Thanks, good to know. I junst wonder why the officials never bothered to end all confusion with a simple statement. Apparently the Steam Forums are in fact down because of this exact problem and I'm sure they lost a lot of preorders in the process. I remember something similar about the new Deus Ex? How did that turn out?

Edit:

My soucres?

- diverse topics on amazon.co.uk where I bought the game

- an article on pcgames.de about a possible region lock

- a thread on the steam forums about this issue. forum apparently down because it got out of control

I should clarify that this is not a fact. I simply want to know if I can keep my UK preorder. I'm just very confused about the whole thing since I went to amazon this morning.

Edit 2:

The Steam Forums are offline because of a hacker attack this morning. But there is a very large steamforum thread about a Skyrim region lock according to google.

If you can log into your Steam account, you can play Skyrim. And you can log into Steam from any country in the planet, afaik. So there shouldn't be any problems.

This statement is wrong and I can prove it. I have a RU key and I live in the NA and I can not play the game.

Which makes me wonder what is someone is traveling or moved would they no longer be able to play the game?

Just got the game and fortunatly I can also play it. So UK versions do work in other european countries. That's a giant load of my mind.

But apparently it's still something to be concerned about if you live outside the EU. So best to check it out before buying the game.

Unfortunatly I still don't have any official infos from bethesda or steam for that matter.
