jburrowes
Still worse is the lack of the num row keybindings that existed in Oblivion. It makes maintaining short-duration buffs ridiculous, since the Favorites menu absolutely sucks compared to standard 1 through X key binds. You can bind items and spells to keys 1 through 8. Anything in your Favorites can be bound. Just highlight it and press the key you want. (Though for some reason my bow won't stay bound. Everything else does.) Some games allow multiple 'pages,' of 1 to 8 key bindings. Meaning holding shift and pressing 2 will bring up a second bank; shift + 3 a third; etc. That would be nice in Skyrim but I know I'm dreaming. Danktank62
The UI blows. It's clunky with a mouse and downright irritating with the keyboard. What's worse is that there are no menu-to-menu swaps; e.g., to swap from Weapons to Spells, you need to entirely exit Weapons and then hit Spells. Trying to get off a Fast Heal as a sword and board warrior is nearly impossible when it actually counts—when you need it FAST. You're better off just keeping your heal equipped, which devalues shields in any situation where you'd need emergency healing. Still worse is the lack of the num row keybindings that existed in Oblivion. It makes maintaining short-duration buffs ridiculous, since the Favorites menu absolutely sucks compared to standard 1 through X key binds. It's a neat game, but I just simply can't imagine why basic keybinds weren't included. What's interesting is that if you attempt to bind something to 1 through 0 on your num row, the game will tell you that the key has been reserved. You can keybind through the favorites menu. If you have the default keybinds setup make whatever you want to keybind a favorite by "F" then press "U" and you can keybind in the favorite menu by highlighting the item you want and pressing 1-9. Its really clunky tho with dual weilding. You can also favorite magic, potion, and shouts.

DeadxPixels
I can't believe how many people outright hate the interface.. I, for one, like it. Menu's are different sure, because you don't need the mouse much, if at all, but that just makes it easier to navigate in my opinion. Tapping through with the keyboard makes it all quicker and more precise than navigating with a mouse. @ Gilead Maerlyn You said you want "efficient and intuitive": well to me, this UI is more efficient and intuitive than most.Find a new weapon and want to equip it? TAB-> D + D + S + S (as quick as you're able, takes 1 second for me) and you're at the weapons. It didn't take me any time to figure menus out. And no, I'm not a console gamer. (Don't read too much into "figure menus out" - ANY game you play you have to take a moment to get oriented with the menus) I would agree though that it could use some upgrades, like sorting Favorites into categories and a more detailed inventory like that of Oblivion: list weight/value/etc all at once, but navigation couldn't get easier with a keyboard, in my opinion. One thing I definitely would love is if inventory was a bit smaller, moved to the left, and zoomed some to preview equips Edited November 18, 2011 by DeadxPixels
chrismgtis
Using WASD is ridiculous for a PC game's menu. In the early 90s it could be excused. In 2011, it is definitely not. Also, not having full mouse control (that doesn't feel like dragging a dead body with it) and forcing players to use WASD at any point in a menu, is inexcusable. As is not automatically changing the Field of View (very amateur development on Bethesda's part) but that's another matter.
DeadxPixels
Using WASD is ridiculous for a PC game's menu. In the early 90s it could be excused. So because it's PC, menus MUST use mouse only? Is this the "problem" everyone is having?
