Blocky
Other people had that problem. They said u don't need to download. 5.1 GB isn't the patch, it's the full game. Check the post with titles along the lines of "Not happy with Steam" "My first impression of Steam" etc. They had your same problem.
Fisrion
Well..installed the game from the DVD and it is there....but i changed the language after installing and i hope that it is only downloading the voices files (at least those are the only ones that are changing in size) and i hope that it will jump to the full 5.7 gb once it has fully downloaded them...if not...i will rage  But anyways...it might be useful to turn up settings such as LoD draw distance and grass distance if the ultra settings are too low (but i would really like to know why they can´t just give us the option to enable all graphical features in the menu on the highest setting....-.-) Edit: So does somebody know how big the voices file should be ? (so far its nearly 800 mb and growing)Edit2: Nvmd...Steam has noticed that i have already installed it...i will stop the OT now..XD Edited November 11, 2011 by Fisrion
Jaisen_Starsider
Is there any .ini tweak to smooth out the pixelated and blocky shadows on characters and objects up close? I have all of my settings turned all the way up and have turned up some of the shadow options in the preferences file, but nothing seems to make it much better. Keldis
So i am by far not the only person with ugly shadows? Heres what i tried: iShadowMapResolution=4096 -> iShadowMapResolution=8192 = Leads to Major framedrops in interiors iBlurDeferredShadowMask=3 -> iBlurDeferredShadowMask=10 -> iBlurDeferredShadowMask=0 = Leads to Hard Shadowing, not really an improvement on objects on walls like torches, chains, skeletons etc iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=4096 -> iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=8192 = No effect after all iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=4096 -> iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=8192 = No effect after all. fShadowDistance=8000.0000 -> fShadowDistance=3000.0000 = Smooths the Shadows but for the price of bad distance graphics. Conclusion: I think this is an engine bug, Oblivion had much smoother Shadows by only setting the game to iShadowMapResolution=1024. supershine
I tweaked the shadows and they're now ok, but when I get close to shadows and look down, they change to a lot blocky and ugly. And when I look up again, and still see them below, they change back to crisp and clear. Anyone else got this problem? How to fix it? My shadow settings: iBlurDeferredShadowMask=0fInteriorShadowDistance=3000.0000fShadowDistance=8000.0000iShadowSplitCount=2fShadowLODStartFade=250.0000iShadowMode=3bTreesReceiveShadows=1bDrawLandShadows=1bShadowMaskZPrepass=0iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=6144iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=6144iShadowMapResolution=6144fShadowBiasScale=0.1500iShadowMaskQuarter=4iShadowFilter=3bDrawShadows=1 I've tried to change about all of them individually, but nothing has worked. Most of the time the shadows look ugly, and good only in some spots and angles. Here are screenshots of my problem:When looking down. When moving crosshair slightly up. edit: Got it working, I just don't know how.. here's the working values however, shadows look great: iBlurDeferredShadowMask=0fInteriorShadowDistance=3000.0000fShadowDistance=8000.0000iShadowSplitCount=2iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=2048iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=4096iShadowMapResolution=4096fShadowLODStartFade=600.0000iShadowMode=4bTreesReceiveShadows=1bDrawLandShadows=1bShadowMaskZPrepass=0fShadowBiasScale=0.1500iShadowMaskQuarter=4iShadowFilter=4bDrawShadows=1 Edited November 11, 2011 by supershine
Fisrion
I think its the ShadowMode setting.. i set it to 4 and the shadows look much better now. Maybe you do also need to increase the ShadowMap resolution..i have doubled it. Edited November 12, 2011 by Fisrion
