FoolyFooly
Solution has been posted over on the technical support forum. It's a sound output issue of all things.this has nothing to do with the problem we are all having Try the fix first, genius. If the game loads up and crashes immediatly on the main menu, this is the problem. It happens when your sampling rate is set above 48000hz. grizzlyatoms
Why are you posting here? You should contact Steam support first. Contacting support is the first step to trying to resolve the issue.Steam pretty much cannot be contacted at the moment because of the hack attack they had. I wonder if all these issues are coming from the huge explosion of people that logged on tonight to download and start skyrim. i mean the application is internet based and if its lagging up and what not i wonder if that's what is causing the problems. i never have steam issues until now. xaliqen
Try Steam support first. If Steam support doesn't work, the next step is to go to the publisher or developer of the game (usually the publisher first). In this case, the publisher and developer are pretty much the same Zenimax/Bethesda. So, if Steam won't help you, contact Bethesda customer support. If Bethesda customer support doesn't help you, call either Steam or Bethesda directly on their support line. You can often get further in a phone call than just going through online support. I just reinstalled steam and im now "validating my steam/skyrim files", steam did not do this in the initial install. Also, when i reinstalled steam and logged back in they made me go to my email to get a security code to verify that it was me, i guess this is a precaution after the attack. I will try adjusting my sound settings after steam is done validating. *sigh* i'm not gonna get to play until late tomorrow if i'm lucky
xaliqen
Here are the links: Steam Support and Bethesda Support Remember to select the e-mail option for Bethesda support. It'll be on the right-hand side of the page once you've selected the game and operating system.
Galderon85
Having same problem here, Click play and it sorta loads for a few seconds then does nothing. I don't even get a Game Menu screen, it's almost like Steam is incapable of loading the game. I definitely have a computer capable of playing it. Tried: -updating all drivers -getting all Window's seven updates -updating steam -tried reinstalling the game -tried reinstalling steam and reinstalling the game -tried starting the game from the TESV file in the game directory I've sent Steam support an e-mail but they haven't gotten back to me yet... been a couple days already. Starting to think Steam screwed me, first game I bought from them and likely to be my last. 60bucks out the window. And yeah apparently they don't give refunds, how convenient... I knew I should've just gotten it on PS3 lol. I guess the last thing left to try is totally reformatting my computer... Goodluck to the rest of you! Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Sound2. In the Playback tab, right click on Speakers (or whatever has a green tick next to it), then click Properties3. In the advanced tab on this new window, select 24 bit, 44100Hz (Studio Quality) in the drop down menu
