Titan Quest is slow sometimes (

Hello

I have a problem witch i hope you people can help me solve. I have Titan Quest and my pc is more than capable to play it with best quality. The problem is that it dosent, game goes very slow sometimes and sometimes it even freezes and my character is in a different place than it was before freezing (character moved but the picture was still). Sometimes the hard drive reads a lot but most of the times when its slow the hard drive is idle. :ermm: The more i advance in a game the more jerky it becomes.

Recommended Specs are:

- 3.0 GHz Intel Pentium IV or equivalent

- 1 GB RAM

- 128 MB NVIDIA GeForce 6800

or ATI Radeon X800 series

- Soundblaster XFi sound card

My PC:

DualCore Intel Pentium D 945, 3417 MHz (17 x 201)

Gigabyte GA-965P-S3R S775

1024 MB (DDR2-533 DDR2 SDRAM)

Sparkle GeForce 8800 GTS 320 MB (PCI-E, gDDR3, 320Bit, 500MHZ/1600MHz, HDTV-OUT, DUAL DVI)

Realtek ALC883 @ Intel 82801HB ICH8

Western Digital Caviar WD3200KS 320GB (7200rpm, 16MB, SATA 3Gb/s)

Lite-On DVD-RW SHW 16H5S SCSI

3DMark06: 7163

I have all video settings high on 1024x768 resolution and all options ticked (antialiaising, vsync...i dont remember the rest)

HDD is defragmented, no viruses (Eset Smart Security), no spyware.

So what you think? What may be the problem?

It didnt help, i set all settings low and unticked everything but it still does it. I read some forums that it does that with newer graphics cards and no one know exactly what causes it...so i think i just have to get used to it

By the way... one of my friends has a 1.0b version of the game and bought immorthal throne expansion pack but the problem is that when he runs IT then it asks to patch TQ but says an error before patching. Anyone knows how to make it work? He cant run ANY pach available for download... What is there to do??

Update your drivers, reinstalling the game, mess around with the Engine.ini file etc.

It's very hard to know what the problem is when you don't give any kind of info, like what the error message said, what his computer specs are and such. So, please, give us a little more to chew on, ok?

I dont know his system specs but according to him its way over recommended specs. His updater...he said that when he launches the IT then it asks to patch the TQ, when he clicked okay the IT exited and launched the patch. Patch asked confirmation for patching the game and when he clicks okay then error comes "Updater has encountered an error".

ANd about my problem...ill try to tweak Engine.ini file...where can i find it?

I hate to say it but the one recommended spec most Mfr's fudge on the most is memory.

They don't take into account how much overhead is going to be taken up by the OS and other background processes.

For instance just running Word and this webpage, even though my total physical memory is 2,094,828k (Task Manager Numbers), it tells me only 1,524,872k (Task Manager Numbers) is available. In other words out of 2 gigabytes of ram only 1.5 gigabytes is Free.

On a system with 1gig of ram, actual available memory to run applications (read games) could be as low as 500meg.

Well if the game recommends 1 gig of ram, and this is where they fudge, the user with only 1 gig of system memory isn't going to get off the ground with that game. The Manufactures out there know the average home system has 1 gig of ram and don't want to hurt their sales by scaring off buyers with the facts. What I want to know is what THEY have to do, to get that game running on 500meg. I'll bet they have to lower the settings all the way to the bottom, and make sure they are running only the absolutely necessary background processes.

It's my understanding that Windows Vista simply locks out 3 to 5 hundred megs off the top (don't know the exact amount) for its own use. I've heard a crying and moaning about that from the crowd that thinks Microsoft is over bloated. But if this forces the software people to be more honest about how much memory an application really needs, perhaps there will be fewer problems down the road. (Read crashes as a result of memory collisions caused by applications trying to use the same or overlapping memory addresses.)

Robert's Rule #xx1 "Honesty is the ONLY policy" (Unless of course your playing a bad guy in a game in which case that's the first rule out the window. "Lock and Load. Sucker's Die First. What You Look-in At" "Ask questions L a t e r …") Ask me about my 500 point shock spell sometime, it's a real showstopper.

This is just one persons opinion based on personal experience. I hope I didn't upset anyone or go to far off topic. Or anything else.

Then again, I am just a Noob. Did I spell that right or is it Newb?

Thanks,

Yeah...i have only 1 gig total memory... I will buy 2 gigs of ram. Maybe i will even buy faster ram too...i have 533 currently on my machine but i think i should buy 800's. Maybe it helps out the game too...?

Sidequestions:

1. How damage works in titan quest. If i have, lets say, 300 defence then how that protects my character. Is it like when i get damage of 400 then i only loose 100 points of life?

2. What is vitality damage?

Sorry for these offtopic questions
