Levelscaling

Hi all,

ok its a Bethesda game, so levelscaling is normal. It is not so bad like in Oblivion but its still anoying. At the start its really ok, you dont care about the scaling actually you dont really "feel" it. But later if you are lvl 15-20-25-50(?) its really not ok how its workin. You are the hero of skyrim with a high level, master of sword and magic. You are visiting some old low lvl places and you want to do some unimportant small quests. You have to visit some caves and you know "well, what or whoever is here it must be weak..." and then "DUHH" wtf are these supermonsters and bandints with lightsabers doing here?

I like hard quests and i like difficult fights. But sometimes its not matching. If your char is really strong you should feel that, you should have a lot of easy caves, monsters, places. And if your are weak you should die, die like a rat and try this or that quest later. In Skyrim are the most of the quests scaled on your lvl. You dont have to fear stuff. I think its anoying. Is there are way to make some nice non-lvlscale-mods for skyrim?

Edit: and really levelscaling is in skyrim much much better then is oblivion. But you know: its still there ^^ And maybe here are some people who think like me, that there shouldnt be lvlscaling at all. But how solve this problem, to give every quest/monster/npc a static lvl? Would take a long time... yeah I know it sounds hard.

I agree and the best solution for level-matching as well as many other gameplay settings (fatigue, carry capacity, rate of leveling, walking speed, etc) is to make these settings player-configurable. I wish Bethesda had implemented player-adjustable ini files for some of the more common gameplay elements instead of hard-coding them and requiring modders to redefine those variables later.

Mmm, I'm not totally sure of this because I didn't reached a high level yet, but I think level-scaling in Skyrim is already substantially different of Oblivion.

Yes, in Oblivion you could find level 50 wolves and that was totally annoying, but in Skyrim critters and monsters go by level ranges. That is, wolves (the normal ones) scale with you along level 1 to 5, but if you are level 50 and encounter the same wolves they'll be level 5 only, so I don't think there's any problem (?). Correct me if I'm mistaken.

I absolutely and completely agree with what you wrote. I also love challenge in the games, usually play the hardest or the second hardest difficulty levels, but level scaling completely ruins the game for me. When I start a game I want to feel like a rag doll in the beginning, I want to be scared of every monster out there and I demand there are no-go zones for me where I'd get gutted 100 times out of 100 tryouts by a far superior foe/monster. On the other hand once I reach mid-game I want to still be dying, but with sound strategy I'd like to succeed. And when I finally train my character to the top shape, I expect to be a unique hero within the world with only handful of comparable opponents, typically the final bosses (and not every second). A rat on level 60 is one big WTF for me. I understand the game needs to be easy on the dummies and noobs who would lose interest in the beginning if they die too often. But level scalling will not secure the game to remain challenhging. No. In the beginning it's not challenging enough and in the end it makes every minor fight unrealistically challenging.

I hope somebody will come up with an OOO.

I'd also love to see a mod to remove level-scaling. It's nothing more than annoying. If you want to become strong with level-scaling enabled, you're not allowed to train too much other, non-combat skills. But I want to train my character from the beginning in pickpocket, sneaking, smithing etc. without having a disadvantage on normal quests, where I get one-hit finished while blocking if level 20 or 30 with low fighting skills.

Just once I'd like to be the L-50 mage walking into a bandit hideout and see 20 low level bandits fall to their knees begging for mercy as soon as they see my hands begin to glow. Or better yet after I melt the first one with a wave of my hand.

Aside from pre-determined quest and tasks essential to the game I'd like some randomized leveled dungeons in the game. You know, the walk on in and take your chances kind of thing.

I agree with everything that has been said so far (I think).

In the beginning it was too easy and this is when enemies should be feared, now at about Level 37 I'm finding it often frustrating. I have mastered smithing and almost mastered enchantment and my equipment is therefore almost as good as it could possibly be. So I'm finding it rather annoying to have some random bandit destroy me with a few swipes of his steel greatsword. Makes me feel like my efforts to improve my character have been detrimental! I'm thinking that many human enemies should probably have their level set or at least capped? The non-human enemies feel fine, or even possibly *a little* weak.
