tjompe
I have the exact same problem with the monitor going black with the "no signal" and sound plays for about 4-5 seconds then the computer hangs. This only happened for me outside the second town White-something. It was always the same spot where it crashed. I solved my crashes with disabling all AA and only left FXAA on + window mode. Still playing with the high-settings but with no AA and only FXAA. and what do you know, I have been able to play for 5ish hours without a single crash. Im sitting on a comp with Win7x64, AMD HD6850 and catalyst 11.10. So i think the window mode or the no AA fixed my problem.Sorry for my bad english, its not my native language. ChaosMtl
Sorry I don't have a solution, I'm just happy I found other people with the same problem. Not that I'm happy you all have the problem, it's just, atleast I'm not alone. My problem is the exact same as the original post, but my system is a little weaker. Windows 7, AMD Phenom 8450 Triple-Core 2.10 GHz, installed Memory (RAM): 6 GB, 64-bit OS, Nividia GeForce 9400GT. I have spent the last 12 hours downloading drivers, updateing everything, changing audio to 16 bit, 44100 HZ. Another problem I had was that when I finially got Steam installed, (gave me error - Win32 Error 5 " not authorized"), then I tried to install skyrim, it went and started downloading the game off the Steam internet site rather than from my hardcopy disk I just bought. I think I have it installed properly now, but I dont know because I'm not good with computers, a real compurter bo-bo....anyways, I dont know if that maybe has something to do with the black screen/audio freeze crash problem. I can load the game, play the game, it looks, sounds and plays great, but keep getting that damn Black screen crash 10-20 in to the game. Im still in the opening scene! I cannot express politely, (Canadian), just how pissed off, annoyed and depressed I am over this, like many, I have been waiting what seems like forever for 11-11-11, and this is such a let down. So much for the weekend...
yinterno
I've found others with the same problem! I've tried everything mentioned except the windowed mode fix, which I was about to try. The only difference between your setups and my setup is that I'm running Windows Vista 64-bit. My system can handle Skyrim on High detail, and I was able to play the game for 4-5 hours before these crashes started happening every 15-20 minutes. I have to hard boot my PC everytime the crash happens, because just like you all, it black screens, the audio starts looping, and the PC stops responding. I am getting tired of this. fireside807
This isn't necessarily related, but I ran a gpu monitoring and reporting tool during my last play, which was mostly in a dungeon, but upon exiting, sure enough, it crashed at about 10 minutes. I noticed the gpu usage shot up to 99 percent at the moment of the crash, and did a little researching, not much: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/310847-33-catalyst-usage-there
misco
Same problem here.Video crashes at any particular time of the game after about 3 minutes playing, than have to reset computer.Same config as HTMLHellFireWin 7 64Nvidia GTS240 I ran the video check for the game from NVidia http://www.geforce.com/GamesandApps/games/elder-scrolls-v-skyrim/GPUAnalyzerAnd it thoes say that that I should get a better video card. But I dont think thats the issue, there must be a bug, because it doesn matter the resolution the game plays smoothly but than crashes it doesnt matter if its inside or outside. Tried reinstaling drivers, latest update... keep crashing
naomis8329
I have a Nvidia 420 which copes with most and my graphics run smoothly no lag. some missing meshes like I said but then I get the CDT with no exception, no error report, nothing. So confusing. I thought maybe Steam was overloading with everyone trying to play at once so was dumping people at random to clear space and give everyone a chance lol. rando3
tried some of the suggested solutions (windowed, no AA, sound stuff, no v synch) and it seemed to get worse and worse. now it crashes after just 10min of playing. before, i could play like 30min or more on the open map. EDIT: updated catalyst to 11.10 and set settings to ultra but keeping AA on 4 and anisotropic on 8 and i could play for almost 2h without crashes EDIT2: ok i've had it with this game ... after last crash ALL my saves have gone corrupt ... won't be playing until the problem is fixed for good very disappointed here by bethesda Edited November 12, 2011 by rando3
ratMortar
This isn't necessarily related, but I ran a gpu monitoring and reporting tool during my last play, which was mostly in a dungeon, but upon exiting, sure enough, it crashed at about 10 minutes. I noticed the gpu usage shot up to 99 percent at the moment of the crash, and did a little researching, not much: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/310847-33-catalyst-usage-there I would think this is directly related. I was already assuming from my own tests that this problem had to do with certain parts of the world being rendered. Since, in my case at least, lowering my settings to helped me progress further without crashes, I have to assume it's because there's far less stress on my GPU. But considering that the other 99% of the time the games runs smooth on Ultra settings at 60fps, I have no reason to believe the problem is from my own system. As initially predicted, my only thought would be that this is directly to do with a bug in the game hence the best thing everyone here can do is create a ticket reporting the problem. These guys were supposed to release a patch yesterday but they didn't and while I have no idea if it will fix this issue, I'm hoping they're taking the steps to resolve it. On the note of people who tried to lower the graphical settings to their lowest with no success; my system is an i5, 8GB of ram, HD 6950 rig, I'm wondering if maybe it works for me because my PC is a little beefier and can withstand the sudden spikes in game...
