Yamcakes
So I have a fairly decent PC i just got out of the box and cant play skyrim. I have gone through the following steps to troubleshoot any problems, so please dont suggest what I have been reading for the past 2 days straight x_x; (I own the retail PC version btw)-Validated the steam cache files-Updated Drivers(yes all of them)-Updated my mobo-Downloaded the new 4gb.exe for skyrim-Tried the "sound" fix by setting to 44100-Tested settings on default High, then to low-Took off Shadows-No AA settings are applied-Tried Windowed Mode, no dice there (When i do, the key thing to note is I lag as well as I am stuck in the wagon inside the driver; happens all the time if that helps)-Ran a DxDiagnostic and everything checks out great.-Nvidia graphics card IS the video card my game is reading from I cant get through a single moment of gameplay without an errorless desktop crash. On the rare occasion I get 3 seconds of gameplay THEN a crash, always at the first loading screen. PC specs: Hopefully someone can make sense of this massive wall of text. :c ------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 11/26/2011, 10:45:07Machine name: BarderothReturns
64-bit Windows 7 here, i5, 4GB, ATI HD 5770 I started getting frequent crashes last weekend - mostly CTDs, but also a few black screens and BSODs. Not only Skyrim kept crashing after a few seconds of gameplay, but also EVE Online, which usually runs fine with 2 game clients open, and even FireFox. Tried updating the graphics drivers - this at least let me play EVE again. Tried cache file verification - this just led to the Skyrim launcher CTDing. Tried running the TESV.exe as administrator - that let me play for a while. Last night I had another CTD after which the launcher would instantly crash every time. This morning, trying to run the exe as administrator again, I had 2 BSODs in close succession, each giving memory management as the cause. So I ran windows memory diagnostics, which told me I had a hardware failure. Installed and ran memtest... and sure enough, one of my RAM modules failed on the first test. I'm currently waiting for a replacement - and hope that this will sort it. First of all sorry about my english. My Skyrim works perfectly, but i have a strange CTD. I´ll try to explain it..... When i get killed starts to load the last saved game. If the saved game is in the same zone that i got killed I always have a CTD It doesn´t happen in interiors........only in exteriors. Always!! Any Ideas??? This is NOT a CTD thread. We're all sorry you're having problems, since we are as well, but you are in the wrong place. :c When you say a desktop crash, do you mean you entire system is forced to perform a hard system restart? Awoogah
Sadly, I have no solution for this. I tried everything listed on this thread (I started reading it back when it was but a wee tot of a mere 3 pages or so). A few days ago, I installed some alternative ATI drivers suggested on this thread, which, to my absolute ecstasy, worked for an entire day, no hard crashes (after having them every 30 seconds to 30 minutes or so). I got up the next day to play, having changed literally nothing, and the crashes started again. Wat. I am completely blown away by this problem; it makes no rational sense that it would work for the whole day (after being awful for the first week or two), then start the nonsense again. Obviously, I'm just waiting for the patch (not getting my hopes up about it though). I mainly just wanted to vent. There are few problems the internet has not solved for me, but this is one of them. The thing is, I am not sure if I can call it a system crash anymore, because the system stability seems to have fixed itself over the course of my experimentation with a number of troubleshoots. I believe now, what I am suffering from is simply the CTD errors, but I felt that I had enough reason to post my problem here because I had received total system failure a few times. utherix
My computer was crashing in every game I played. It turns out my video card was overheating. So I turned on automatic fan speed settings on my video card using EVGA Precision. After doing that, my fan will get pretty loud sometimes but it never crashes. Perhaps you can find a similar setting for your card. TLDR: sounds like your video card may be overheating; increase fan speed. I hope this solution helps somebody. If this does not help then consider replacing your video card. Edited November 26, 2011 by utherix

voldoman
Doesn't work for me, I've tried running it with Vista and XP compatibility. Still black screens after 10 seconds of play.
