NoAardvarksAllowed
I haven't picked the game up yet, but on an online photo of the map that comes with the game, I noticed there where a few places marked with Xs. The map lacks a legend and the Xs aren't named or explained in any way. So what is their significance? X marks the spot of...what?

Or are they 2 mining picks crossed over each other? Only thing I found that looks like an X on map is a the 2 mining picks that signifies a mine for mining ore for crafting. NoAardvarksAllowed
I meant on the paper map that came with the boxed game. I should have made that clear, since I guess most people only get the steam download. Here is a pic of the map with some of the Xs marked in purple: http://i.imgur.com/Tvtlr.jpg
ub3rman123
I'm starting to think that they might be the Skyrim replacement for birthstone. How many are there?
FoolyFooly
I'm starting to think that they might be the Skyrim replacement for birthstone. How many are there? More than the 7 x's that are on the map. I guess i'll go find one of the spots in the game. Edit: I just traveled to one of the x's on the map, the one near Windhelm by the lake. It led me to some large ruins called "Irkngthad". It's in the exact same place as the X on the map. Edit 2: I'm not sure what the signifigance is. The ruins look like they serve some purpose but theres no entrances and nothing else there. There has to be some reason why its marked on the map, i'll have to go find another one. Edit 3: Found another one near Solitude, same thing. These are called "Kilkreath". Theres a door that requires a key. Bethesda has me curious with this. I also just realised I had found one earlier while exploring around Winterhold, that one also had a door that required a key. I probably missed the door at the first one. I wonder what this is all about. Here's a picture of the odd ruins, they all seem to share the same theme. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1244235/Skyrim/ScreenShot15.bmp Edited November 12, 2011 by FoolyFooly
