Kelibath
Having the same installation loop since 4pm today; it worked fine in the morning. There is now no TESV.exe in my related steamapps folder and the Launcher exe has the 'Run as Administrator' greyed out. I can hardly run TESV.exe directly when Steam has deleted it from my local hard drive (how is that reasonable?).. and even though I have a hard copy of the game, after going through Steam Validation (Library - Properties - Validate local cache) I have had to redownload TESV.exe at 40kbps (!!) .. as apparently Steam is unable to comprehend 7MBps bandwidth. I can't believe this game was considered fit for release. More time spent trying to fix it than playing it so far. I'll be backing-up TESV after redownloading. Baeol
To be honest, the stroy line for the game is excellent, and in my opinion well placed out, but the let down came with all the bugs and problemns that came with this game, especially after updating and patching and the like. Great game, but bethesda should really be ashamed of themselves for releasing a game so screwed over by stupid little problems such as this. LegendaryLandon
None of these fixes have worked for me. I have a hard copy of the game so I cant verify integrity or whatever. Tried running as administrator and didn't work. I need to get rid of this stupid loop...
Lizgiggle
Yes, I tried all that. I tried deleting things at random. I tried uninstalling the game and redownloading it and reinstalling it. I had gotten a new computer and transferred my files over, so I thought perhaps something was corrupted... now. Let me tell you how to fix this if nothing else has worked for you so far. :) go to Microsoft's website and download DirectX. Install it, and then restart your pc. Now, if that doesn't work, retry checking the integrity of your game cache, then rerun the game. Again, if that doesn't work, try updating the drivers to your video card. By the way, it's stupid that it's about a sound file that causes all of these issues. I hope that works for the rest of you!
johneee
Thankyou!Everwatcher33, thanks for the fix, it worked straight away and I never had to fiddle about to get my installed mods to be checked again. Thanks again,Johneee
Jmvars
I had the same problem and tried googling, and this thread was the first result. But I found a fix myself: If you have mods, check your load order. I recently installed the official High Res Texture pack by Bethesda, and it loaded after all my mods. It is an .esm file and should always be loaded first, before .esp's

Nerp47
Hello guys, I hope someone out there are able to help me out, I´m getting really frustrated here.. I bought a hard copy of Skyrim, installed it and updated it (and steam) and now when I try to run the game, nothing happens: the launcher just takes me straight back to the launcher menu. When I press play again, same deal. I tried rebooting the computer and steam, changed my speaker settings in the control panel, setting the graphics to low aswell as windowed mode, and also tried searching the web for an answer, without luck. My computer should be able to run the game without any problems, and I´ve never had a game-problem like this one before. And yes, I´m an idiot when it comes to computers, so please be gentle if I completely missed doing something obvious for the game to work.. http://www.thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/wink.gif Please help me *starts kicking stuff out of frustration* I found a fix for this after trying for a few damn hours. Go to the steam install folder > steam > steamapps > common > skyrim. Right click on the skyrim launcher and properties and check run as admin, save it and then double click the launcher. The Skyrim menu should pop up and let you play. It worked for me thank god. uummm does all these things work with a downloaded version...
