I'm imagining the role playing here, and, at least how I'm imagining things, it would be a bit difficult.

I'm just thinking of an entire city running in terror as you smash your head through a wall so you can ask about a fence at the thieves guild...

I'm guessing it would be easier if there were a questline devoted solely to playing as a dragon. If a team starts on this ambitious project, there's no doubt it could be truly awesome.

How about you just use the cinematic script already used ingame for mounting ODAHVIING and just make a questline that lets you ride dragons. Maybe when you use DRAGON CALL and no enemies are around ODAHVIING will land and ask you to do something for him. Reward is that he will no longer just swoop in and attack things when called, instead he'll find a spot to land and have a "Ride" option. Then you can fly around instead of fast traveling, use jump to take off or land (The ai already knows how to find a spot to land, so there wouldn't be any bugging), and use left and right attacks to either melee (bite/tailwhip/wingsmack) or use YOLTOORSHUL (firebreath) that has a quick regen.

EDIT: I thought I should explain. I am no fan of stuff that breaks ES lore. There, I said it :P

hey guys! found something, a cam fix for the setrace command! works too! http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2294 check it out!

Ah yes, just as I saw in the thread I mentioned above. I'm glad he got around to uploading the fix.

i found sagad's idea great i would kill for a mod like this :P

ahem

no, seriously this is a great idea but it could be very hard to mod, isn't it?

well i can't wait for this! :)

No, it should not take long at all to make, once the Creation Kit is out (January ) we should be able to put this together very easily. The Setrace commands that are already in the game make things a lot easier.

Let's get controls, stability, shouts (currently have to messily add weird dragon-specific shouts manually via console), and camera down before we worry about plot-friendly implementation.

Yes, this is what I am trying to get people to focus on. What's the point of story without the ability to play it?

The camera isn't a problem now, as on another thread, someone showed how you can modify a creatures skeleton and move the camera in that process. I believe another person on that thread is going to upload the edited files for people to download and install with a simple drag-and-drop method.

Totally agreed with ya mate. Also this upcoming mod looks awesome, Keep the good work up!

I will also support a pre-release so other users can help you test things like stability, flight mechanics, etc before you really dive into the story.

There was something earlier in this thread... having the start be Alduin resurrecting you?

Brilliant idea, there. I love it.

And totally want to see this.

Well, Skyrim already breaks its own lore several times over and then sort of handwaves them. The Falmer, the way werewolves were implemented and the lack of other werecreatures, the fact that Cyrodiil's northern border is totally incongruous with Skyrim's southern border, et cetera.

I really don't like the 'don't like, don't use' excuse, but just because you don't want to play as a dragon doesn't mean that nobody else wants to. :P If the idea of the mod goes against what you think, find another mod. There are plenty of mods that want to bring in riding dragons.

I saw a mention in this thread of the IDs of the takeoff/landing actions. I was searching and found that someone on another website knows what console command to use with these. I was testing them myself; I'm not sure if player.setclass 0002F201 is necessary (I tried taking off successfully without it), and I don't think that player.setallowflying 1 is needed; I checked myself with player.isallowedtofly and found that it was already set to 1. When the takeoff animation command is used, after the animation plays out, the player is stuck in a gliding animation (as the linked poster mentions). The player can turn upward or downward, and the wings adjust accordingly, but no horizontal movement is possible. I tried setplayeraidriven 0 after the takeoff animation was complete, but it just messed up Skyrim: everything was blue, I got a "You cannot turn in that direction" message, and there would be a "pure virtual function call" crash if I exited the game. I tried player.tc, but it didn't seem to change anything (I think it worked on me when I was on the ground, though). player.pa 0003B4E4 is the ID for landing, 0003B4E5 for beginning to hover, and 0003B4E6 for ending the hovering. I got weird glitches when I repeatedly tested taking off, hovering, and landing, where the player character would shoot off in a seemingly random direction while performing the animations after the first time. Well, that's all I found out today. Sorry if it's already known here, but I didn't see any mention of the pa command in this thread, so hopefully this helps.
