Greygarden happiness decreasing

I usually don't install mods that give me such an advantage since I'm already at superhero status level but I had absolutely no idea that a brahmin could be a synth.

Yeah, they can. I was called to synth infiltrator incidence (using better alerts) and there was a Brahmin. I was reluctant to believe it to be the infiltrator and had to chase it for quite some time when it finally registered that it was indeed the cause of trouble.

My Starlight settlement had 16 settlers and it was attacked by six 2nd gen synths. When the battle was over 4 of my settlers and the Brahmin were dead. All 4 settlers and the brahmin had synth components.

I have downloaded a mod which highlights "synth infiltrators" in blue. I have one at most settlements and a synth Brahmin at another. It's hard to know what, if anything, to do about them as the Institute is a smoking crater so they can't be relaying information to anyone. The happiness at the settlements is in the mid to high 80's so I must be keeping them happy.

I usually don't install mods that give me such an advantage since I'm already at superhero status level but I had absolutely no idea that a brahmin could be a synth. I usually can tell settlers are just by targeting them through VATS and looking at their resistance. If they have an energy resistance of 10 that can't be accounted for by their gear, then they are synths. But I've never bothered to target the brahmin. 900 hrs into the game and I'm still learning new things. I know exactly which brahmin I need to go check now.

All the synths I have found so far (only one) I sent to Hangman's Alley. I won't kill them but am interested to see what happens when they all discover they're living in a synth colony. I've encountered a few glitches too. I have found other settlers with the unexplained energy resistance before but after checking them multiple time just to be sure, their stats and level would change on me.

Well the mod http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/14484/? doesn't really give me any advantage since I have finished the main quest, I just downloaded it for the ability to detect lootable corpses especially when I shot down a vertibird and they had valuable gear on them. It would have been an advantage when I was called out to a settlement where they had turned on a suspected synth though.

If you ask a vendor "How are things?", they will tell you if there's a problem but it's usually an obvious one you can figure out. Check for synths and path problems too as those are a little harder to figure out but have an impact on the overall happiness. Sometimes happiness will start going down if you haven't visited the settlement in a long time. Just showing up will cause it to return to it's normal level and actually sleeping there for a while will raise it slightly.

One of the harder things to figure out is when a settlement is threatened by nearby enemy camps. An npc will usually address this by coming to you and giving you a quest to clear out the camp but I've had a few times where I didn't get a quest but some of the settlers would make random comments about something bothering them. I have this same problem with Graygarden where most of my settlements stay in the 80% range while that one drops to low 70-60% range. I haven't been able to figure out why yet.

They don't say anything about the cause of unhappiness.

I wish they did. Even the slightest hint would help. Every time I ask i just get the generic " Can't say anything comes to mind" answer while I check the happiness level with the red arrow pointing down.

Something like " [insert generic settler] has wet their mattress again and isn't using their bed. Could you get them a new one? " would be hilarious.

Or how about "[insert generic settler] is stuck in the corner again and can't find their way out. Could you rebuild the entire settlement or use your magic to free them from their misery?"

Or even " [insert generic settler] hasn't pooped since arriving at the settlement. We think they might be a synth."

Many people have said that Synths don't sleep but I have a female settler at Murkwater who is a synth and I have seen her sleeping, always in the same bed. Also Curie is a synth and so are many of the Railroad and they seem to have normal, erm, bodily functions.

I've seen Nick eat at the bar, although he explicitly says, he doesn't. I chalk that up to the developers not making a difference between Synth and human behavior.

I have spent little time with Nick but he certainly shouldn't be eating since he has no organic parts. Curie and the other 3rd gen synths are fully organic as we see in the institute scene with the lab.

It's like in the original draft of the Terminator movie , the CSM 101 Terminator (Arnold) had to eat food to maintain his organic parts and at one point they had him eat a Snickers bar but decided it looked silly.

As I said, it's probably the developers deciding on not creating a distinct behavioral model. I can live with that, since it can always be explained away by saying it's to keep the cover. Doesn't change the fact though that it's more likely the developers not going the whole mile.
