Mod Request: The Ability to Hotkey a Dual Wield Combination

This is a modding cry for help. I've been ridiculously excited about Skyrim ever since I found out what an emphasis dual wielding would have in the game. Unfortunately, though you can indeed dual wield just about everything, Bethesda neglected to include any way to quickly switch between dual wield combinations.

For example, if I bind 1 to my sword and set my axe as an off-hand and then set my bow to 2, I can move between those set ups with just the 1 and 2 keys. This works because the game will remember the last off-hand item when moving to two-handed equipment. However, let's say I want to keep my sword in my main hand, but swap in my heal spell to off-hand which is bound to 3. Pressing 3 will indeed swap my off-hand to healing, but pressing 1 again will not bring my axe back as the hotkey system does not recognize off-hand assignments.

The only way to return to my original dual wielding setup is to reequip my axe from the favorites menu. Clunky to say the least. It would be much easier and more fluid to switch from sword/axe to sword/heal and back with just the hotkeys rather than pausing the game by accessing the favorites menu.

Some other notes:

- Assigning the axe it's own hotkey (say sword on 1 and axe on 2) does not work, as the axe will simply replace the sword in the mainhand and leave whatever was already in off-hand in place.

- Dual wielding identical items is the exception to this problem. In this case (say two identical daggers bound to 1) pressing 1 twice will equip one in the main-hand and then the second in the off-hand. You can also switch between the dagger/heal combination as the heal will open in the off-hand and 1 will equip the second identical dagger back to the off-hand.

So here is my desperate plea. Please, genius modders, I beg of you. If this is within your powers - help a poor dual wielding dovahkiin out. Thanks!

Can I throw in a suggestion as to how to accomplish this. Pressing a combination of Alt + Hotkey should save your current wielded items with (if possible) apparel included too. E.g. Equip mage cloak, hat plus two spells and press Alt + 1 to create a hotkey 1 for that particular gear. This seems easier to me than trying to hotkey individual items as it removes the questions about which hands your items should be equipped in. Edited by MafiaInferno

I tried the alt + hotkey but it doesnt seem to do anything. :|

OP: if you click on the item in the favourites you should get a hollow arrow next to it. When you then click on the main-hand weapon the off-hand will equip as well. I think you have to have the off-hand hotkeyed though. Thats how it works with my sword and board. ;)

Various posts state that you can apply a hotkey to an item by hovering on it and pressing the hotkey.

My post was a suggestion of how to mod it instead of instruction how to currently hotkey an item.

I think the ability to quickly switch all your weapons and armour would be much more appropriate than a half assed hotkey of one item that only changes your main hand.

+1 for this.

Or even just a mod that fixes the damn bug that keeps you from hotkeying dual weapons that aren't identical. I wouldn't mind having to hit two keys to dual wield different weapons. Right now I'd love to be able to hotkey dual wielded enchanted weapons but as it stands I'm running around with two identical non-enchanted, unimproved ebony swords because identical weapons are the only thing that allows you to use hotkeys with dual wielding and frankly I can't stand to play this game without hotkeys. It just slams on the breaks of a fight and kills my gaming experience if every time I want to switch back to my swords after using a spell I have to go into my favorites menu and scroll down my list of favorites and individually select the weapons I want to dual wield.

I'm so raging mad about this simple bug, it's driving me crazy.

Please, please, please someone do a quick mod to fix this.

May I recommend that tapping the hotkey places it in your default hand*, holding the hotkey places it in your other hand, and double tapping a key**, or 9 or 0 unequips*** a hand? That or using alt/shift, but shift is my sprint, and alt is my push to talk in TS, don't remember the original bindings.

*Right hand for weapons, left hand for magic.

**Currently double tapping a key unequips a weapon if you only have one, but if you have more than one or if it's assigned to magic, it assigns it to both hands.

***Unequipping is useful for Khajiit to use their claws, or for example when using two one handed or a one handed and magic, to allow you to go back to using one one handed and regain the ability to block.

Seconded. The Hotkeys definitely need reworking!

Being able to save two hands at once would be nice, but I'd like to be able to keep the single-hand hotkeys, too. Personally, I'm not a fan of the concept full-set saving; I doubt anyone would be able to find the time to change suits of armor whilst surrounded by bandits. I know combat armor changing is in the game, regardless of the hotkey situation, but full-set hotkeys make it a bit too easy to abuse imo.

As an aside, adding ctrl and alt modifiers could effectively triple our available number of hotkeys. Also, a better way to select shouts/non-hotkeyed items in favorites would be cool. Maybe if someone can hijack the mousewheel...

Control is sneak, alt is something important that I had to remap when I wanted it as Push to Talk.
