WarKirby3333
i'm doing the "hitting the books" quest for the winterhold college, trying to retrieve the stolen books from the aforenamed keep. I get there, there's a bit of a hostile presence. once they're dealt with it seems there's two entrances, one to the main keep, which needs a key. and one to the dungeon, which is open. i went down to the dungeon and cleaned it out, killed everyone, etc, but i had no luck finding a key. how am i meant to get in ? alien1099
I think I got a Fellglow Keep key from one of the bad guys outside.
fr3shb4ng
enter the dungeon. about halfway in there is a branch on the left hand site that leads down to another corridor and deeper into the fortress. just keep your eyes on the left, you'll find it... I have a much bigger problem! Facing the same quest at the moment. I found Orthorn in the dungeon, let him out. He followed, we got in a few fights, he got killed. I arrive in the ritual chamber, kill the woman but she has no books! I read afterwards that you should be able to trade Orthorn for the 3 books, but he is already dead! Is there any possibility I can get the books after all? ----------------------------------edit: problem solved!! The books were lying on the 3 podiums in the ritual chamber but they were so inconsiderable (no expensive shiny magic literature) that I didn't pay them any attention... luthienanarion
The Clairvoyance spell is good to have when you get lost or stuck in a dungeon. There is a mine just off the road you took from Helgen to Riverwood that has a spellbook inside.

I cannot find this cursed key anywhereThis happened to me as well, and I finally figured it out. Go into the dungeon entrance. At one point, you run across a water filled room with some frost spiders. The guy who summoned them is up on a mezzanine. Beyond him there is a passage, and the route into the rest of the keep is up there---on the left, I think. Use your map to make sure you haven't missed it. Also, I had to pull out to 3rd person perspective to be able to really see where I was going. Another spot in there that was confusing was the room where you found Orthon and the wolves. There are three exits/entrances from that room! One is the way you came in, the other one is up a flight of stairs and requires a key. The third...is the way you need to go. :)
