xDemonJohn
As all of you know, Skyrim was released yesterday. While it is a gigantic improvement upon Oblivion(which was admittedly kind of shitty), there are a few places where Bethesda is going entirely in the wrong direction.1. The user-interface is the shittiest of any game I have ever played. It's a joke. For starters, it doesn't work correctly if you change your keys (which you almost have to do because of the awkward positioning of the default keys), and the tool-tips at the bottom are rendered incorrect, and that's annoying. And then there's the map. I HATE that map with a burning f***ing passion. Flat maps are the way to go. What we have now is flashy and stupid. Good old fashioned flat maps should not be replaced. Ever. I have no idea whether or not replacing the map would be possible, as I don't mod, but if it is possible, it needs to be done as soon as possible.2. The melee combat is wonky as hell. The delay between swings is just uncomfortable. Really, that's all I need to say. It needs to be tweaked a bit. I started this thread as a place for me to post these two things, but I feel that's kind of a waste of a thread. So, let's make this a thread where you can post your ideas for mods in Skyrim, but with the exception that it needs to be replacing or removing something that is already in Skyrim. Both the inventory and the world map are no "medieval" feel at all. Edited November 12, 2011 by wathan
stroom
Also, mining is way too slow and boring. It should either be quicker, or somehow skill-based. Say, a very simple mini-game just like how you pick locks. It could be as easy as a needle going back and forth and you clicking every time it's in the right place, and you either get more ore from doing it perfectly or it just lets you be faster the better you are at the mini game. Or somehow working the mining time into the Smithing profession.
Palora
Pretty face presets, or a least decent looking ones, especially the elves. More colors for eyes/hair, more hairstyle if we're at it. A whistle for the horse and companions so they'll come to you. Brawl/Unarmed fighting probably needs either it's own skill tree or an extra damage tree to act like the Strength attribute. As it is, if you don't waste a perk on Fists of Steel (which requires Heavy Armor 30 + Juggernaut), brawling has some weird/stupid moments like the one in Whiterun where you can beat a fierce, warrior woman, in heavy armor easily only to almost get your ass handed to you by the bard. (While your in your superior dwarven heavy armor with your helmet on and he is in his street clothes punching your lights out with his bare fists) Maybe more but i haven't played that much. Oh yeah: Sleeves! It's supposed to be cold, and even if the Nords are adapted to the cold the rest of the races arn't. (Don't get me started on the executioner with no pants)http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/6419/homelandofthenords.th.jpg Edited November 12, 2011 by Palora
sigo150
I don't know if its possible since it would require a new skill but I want to have spears, pikes and other pole-arm weapons in skyrim.

KillerHappyFace
I was going to create my own post about this exact subject before I saw this one! Totally agree about the UI clunkiness, but I still like the way it looks/works. I'd personally say that an overhaul isn't needed, but improvements definitely need to be added. Here's a reasonably specific list of stuff that I think would work great: 1) Fix the mouse! It's awful to get out of a shop by clicking just a bit under the proper area, and to read a book only to get the button stuck on that book. 2) Swap the default RMB and LMB binding names and default binds. Totally confusing and kinda dyslexic for Bethesda to have right mouse swing your left arm by default and vice versa :S 3) Numeric Hotkeys! It's so annoying to have to pause the game to switch spells. A system where you assign a number to an item, then to swap, you press that number then click the mouse button you want it to be in. (ex, bind healing to 3, so press 3 and right click to put it in your right hand) 4) Hijack the Stats screen for something important that doesn't exist right now: a status screen. At the moment, it's impossible to track your buffs/debuffs easily. 5) Remove the quests/stats screens from the esc menu. Possibly make tabs in the inventory screen to get from magika to quests to stats. That's my two cents about the UI. Now for some more general stuff: - Horse should have an inventory, possibly following you around the world map when dismounted, too. Maybe if the horse is carrying over 150-ish pounds, you can't ride, but it will still follow as a pack animal. (ofc it can't go into dungeons/cities) - Companion/horse markers on the world map. - More than one follower? - A block button, so you can block as long as you don't have bare hands/ only magic out. This does remove the single weapon/empty hand bonus, but I think it's neccesary at least for dual wielding swords; the primary reason for an offhand sword is to parry IRL. Shields are still a benefit because of their armor class. - Removal of the VATS-like finisher when ending combat. It ALWAYS catches some graphical bug in the finishing move animations. Instead, I think finishers should randomly happen when you kill someone, even mid combat, just never zoomed in or slowed down. - I second the mining changes that stroom suggested as well. Ty for bearing though my monstrously long post!
James009
I like everything you guys have posted: UI, mining = smithing, face presets, unarmed fighting, and more weapons. Also, I'd love to see more character customization options (face AND body), more things to craft and create, more armor/weapon variety (everyone seems to be wearing the same stuff to a point), bonuses to some clothing (speech or crafting, though this could probably be enchanted). Luckily, I'm sure all of this will be patched or modded. ...1. The user-interface is the shittiest of any game I have ever played. It's a joke. For starters, it doesn't work correctly if you change your keys (which you almost have to do because of the awkward positioning of the default keys), and the tool-tips at the bottom are rendered incorrect, and that's annoying. ...You mustn't of played Fable 3, lol. That had an AWFUL interface, what was Peter thinking! Personally, I think the equipment UI needs the most work. It's certainly not the worst but it needs much work. tbh, Bethesda has never been too fantastic about interfaces in their games.
Thoragoros
1) Dungeons need to respawn! I miss Oblivion! 2) The UI. The current UI is just terrible. There is nothing 'medieval' or 'fantasy' about it. 3) The Mouse. Senstivity is way off.
zappa45
You are exactly right xDemonJohn on every point that you made. I feel the same way and I feel totally betrayed in a way by bethesda. They seem to be in love with their nice looking bushes and terrain but we don't play the terrain or the rocks we play the characters and we need better interface that that works. Trying to use the skyrim interface just makes me so angry I just have to turn it off...it really sucks. Even a game with low graphics will be fun to play with good character/player interface...bethesda somehow forgot that....I can't explain it.
