Things that Need to be Changed

Sort the UI out, it is so consolised it is unreal.

When dual weilding spells and weapons, left and right click need to control left and right hands respectively.

Higher resolution textures, some of the textures on ultra settings look like they've been taken straight from the xbox version.

Distant lakes and rivers etc are all blocky and angular.

More weapons.

More armour and clothing.

More wildlife, wolves in larger packs (not 2 or 3), more things to hunt.

Snow that doesn't look like paint.

More mouse support.

Vampirism mod that makes being a vampire less shitty, it's exactly the same as vanilla Oblivion.

Dark elves shouldn't be green, the amount of times I've mistaken a dark elf for an orc is insane.

Horses can report crimes.

Rocks look like they've been ripped from Oblivion.

The ability to swing your weapon under water, those poor argonians!

1st person warewolves.

As for the realism ideas, I agree with almost all of them. An idea could be to take shelter during nights and blizzards or your body temp will drop, and the further north you go, or the higher your altitude is, the colder it gets, so there is more need to keep warm!

2) The UI. The current UI is just terrible. There is nothing 'medieval' or 'fantasy' about it.

HARUMPH! Burn it to the ground!

3) Numeric Hotkeys! It's so annoying to have to pause the game to switch spells.

They exist. Open the favourite menu, and use a numbered key to assign it to the highlighted item.

I think the fact that it took people this long to figure out how to use Numerical Hotkeys speaks VOLUMES about the UI in Skyrim. Hell, you guys just taught me how to bind hotkeys to numbers.

The UI is truly, truly the number one gripe I have about this game. Everything about it screams "CONTROLLER FRIENDLY" but, alas. As far as the mouse and keyboard goes? Bethesda seems to have totally forgotten the two were even invented. It's clunky, it's disruptive, it's breaking my immersion for the love of all that is good in this world. Begone with it. Begone.

1) Dungeons need to respawn! I miss Oblivion!

I was under the impression that dungeons did respawn. Just after a week or two. I *know* I have had several outdoor locations respawn on me after a handful of days. That coupled with the fact that Skyrim has "infinite quests" leads me to believe that after an appropriate amount of time (I am thinking something like a week to a month of in-game time, as opposed to the 3-5 days we are used to) lairs and dungeons do in fact respawn. However, if you are correct and dungeons do not respawn, surely they need to!

Anyway, to continue my list of gripes and wishes.

---First person werewolfing. How this didn't make it into the game is just... Silly.

---First person horse riding. Uhh... Why would you *remove* this from Oblivion. Silly Bethesda. >.<

---Put some clothes on! You're freezing! Now, I know the Nords can strut around in their birthday suits, piss into the wind of an oncoming blizzard, and make it home in time for breakfast but, not all of us are Nords! Think of those poor Argonians and Redguards! If I were going from swamp or desert to the frozen tundras of Skyrim, I would be sure to cover myself up good and well! And don't get me started about the "fur, hide, and leather" armors. Give me a break.

---Remove health regen. That just reeks of Call of Duty. At least something to toggle it on and off. Leave health regen on when SLEEPING.

---Hard-toggle on fast-traveling. Firstly, I want to thank Bethesda for including carriages in the game. Whether they realize it or not, it keeps purists like myself content from not using the fast-travel button. In any case, I want something to turn it off and leave it off, 'cause "back in my day" fast-travel was called 'Mark' and 'Recall.'

---Vampires are no different than those of Oblivion. Need I say more?

---Something needs to be done about the lack of interactivity in woodcutting and mining. They're a bore.

---Fishing. I'm tired of swimming in raging torrents and icy waters to collect my fish!

---Eating, drinking, sleeping realism. Just for my immersion.

---Removing the "healing" component from food and drink, just like it was done in Fallout: NV (something that I applaud them for). Eating ten apple and cabbage stews is not going to save your from that sucking chest wound folks, I'm sorry. Additionally, follow in the footsteps of Fallout: NV (yet again) and make potions a "heal over time" as opposed to an "instant heal."

---Once again I reference Fallout: NV. Give a weight to arrows. I believe at some point the 1200 some-odd iron arrows I've collected will start to weigh me down. Just a bit.

---Bedrolls? I see them everywhere but cannot take them with me. What sort of magic and trickery is this?

---More 'unleveled' loot. Tweaks and adjustments on the leveling system in general. There's just so much here. It seems like *everything* in this game is scaled to your character. Truly, I kid you not. The loot you find is scaled to your character. The items you buy off vendors is scaled to your character. The effectiveness of armor and weapons you equip is scaled to your character. Why does everything have to be scaled for perfect balance? I know there are the * occasional* wrenches thrown into the mix (see frost trolls) but, I already feel like I'm grinding myself up to a higher level so I can use the "good stuff." Or so that I can start finding "this armor set." What divine being controls all of this exactly? Because he or she seems to have pretty damn good timing on when things start appearing in the world. Furthermore, why does loot have to be scaled if it's not going to be as effective as it should until I get to the appropriate level anyways? And finally, if you're level scaling loot everywhere, why in the world are bandits *STILL* wearing hide armor and how the heck does hide armor absorb that much damage? And how are they doing so much damage to me with iron and steel daggers? I want their secrets!

However, don't get me wrong. I love this game. I know I will be spending several hundred hours over the next few years in the lands of Skyrim. Here's to the modding community, they're simply the best around. And they're the guys that'll keep me playing Skyrim for years to come.

I'm making a list of small tweaks just for myself, stuff that I can fix in five secs once the creation kit is out. Just got annoyed by spider webs, being a werewolf I was unable to get through, a dagger apparently is infinitely more powerful than claws... adding it to the list.

It's a sad thing. And it feels like a slap in the face to the fanbase considering how many series get popular on the PC first before ever even being considered having a console release.

Meh.

All I really want is a better hotkey setup and weapon loadouts.

I have stopped playing cause of the UI and i have started too make a template of UI Inventory screen that we could discuss about together. The more we discuss about it the better it will be.

This is just a simple template and it needs a lot of tweaks.

Slarur

  • More cooking recipes(there is only like four recipes that use multiple ingredients)
  • More smithing recipes(so much leather and so much iron, but nothing interesting to use it on)
  • A better use for food other then minor healing
  • Remove the health auto regen (its pretty overpowered)
  • Remove that fallout thing that makes you keep the exp you got in a battle you died in, even after you reload the save. (im leveling too fast)
  • Remove the cleared thing from under the dungeons.(it makes the game feel smaller)
  • When giving hotkeys give an indication of what spell you are switching to. I want to use them for shouts, but sometimes im unsure what i switch to.

Slarur, maybe you could start your own thread for such a big project. (one exists already)

I learned it here too, on another thread. I don't know how the first one found it xD

Where did you see that? It is highly unlikely that such a thing exists.

Personally i like the style of the new menu and 3d map. I have no real issues with it. It just needs abit enhanced functionality here and there.

For example what i dont like is: You cannot craft just alone through the keyboard.

Instead each time have to click yes button with the mouse.

I realise this is just one thing of many.

Did not know about hotkeys. So this is a plus.

As to the freezing cold. Everybody can cast a basic fireball and that amount of magic knowledge should be enough to keep you warm as a hero.

Fishing or boat riding (rafting) would be nice. Is there somewhere an epic waterfall drop in this game? I want to try it.

Melee combat is wonky, but it kinda always has been that way in their games. ;)

If someone can fix it, i will make a statue in my room.

Also companions could be much more enhanced.

Sadly little personality.

You can, with a bit of patience, have a spell in your right hand (left button) and a weapon in the left hand (right button). Also there isn't any problem in blocking with a right handed weapon but it only works if you don't have anything equipped in the left hand, if you do you will either block with a shield/torch or you won't because block is off for dual wield (so we need a new block button and dual wield block). However you will run into issues when switching spells, since they will switch the left hand most often then not, just as a weapon will switch the main hand more often then not.

IMO battle-mages don't need blocking weapons, they can just have an offensive spell in one hand and a ward in the other, ofc it will only work if the caster has the mana reserve to defend and attack with. :D Although i think you have to make an advance hibrid if you don't plan on getting mauled (because your a mele specialist fighting flying dragons, a ranged specialist in a cave with tight corners, or a heavy armor master getting hit by armor ignoring magic).

First of all, I know, that you can block with 1H weapon when you have nothing in the left hand and that is not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about having a spell in the left hand. It's quite inconvenient to unequip a spell any time I want to parry. As for the battlemages - you're mixing up just mages and battlemages. The battlemages were always the ones that use both weapons and magic. In the beginning of the game, when battlemages don't have a lot of magicka, a big part of combat is spent in melee. So having ability to parry while the offhand has a spell in it is essential.

You may be right, but weren't battlemages just mages in heavy armor, as opposed to spellblades? The point i was trying to make was that since 1h block works then it's most likely a problem of the offhand attack command overriding the block command, and that in theory it should be easily bypassed with an alternate block key, assuming there isn't an extra command to prevent blocking when dual wielding.

Now if you can block, attack with a sword and cast fireballs at the same time that would make you pretty overpowered wouldn't it? Not that i care for balance in a singleplayer game, just pointing out what Bethesda might have said. Personally I'd chose for magic to be cast on pressing the shortcut w/o having to switch to and from. Just like shouts, which i'm guessing might be the way to go (have all spells as shouts).

You can also equip a spell in the main hand, use a shield for blocking and switch to mele once your magicka runs out, switching main hand magic might be a bit more annoying since using shortcuts will put any spell in the offhand and replace the shield.

more to the wish list:

Archery improvements: Less arrow drop, probably a slight damage boost.

P.S. NoDebate it turns out that before morrowind, TES had fast travel, sad i know. Frankly i like fast travel, nothing annoys me more then having a full inventory and run into 5 bandits worth of loot on my way to selling stuff.
