No npc or player voice

After playing Skyrim for 10 hours without any problems i restarted my computer and wanted to play it more. But now i don't have any npc voice sounds. I tried multiple things that i found on internet but it didn't work, it's all mostly when you have static why npc talks to you, But i don't have any sounds at all when they speak or when i use shouts. Anyone knows what to do with this problem?

Hello, I'm having the same problem you described. There's no voice for any of the npcs and when i turned on subtitles, they went so fast i couldn't read them. There's also no shout sound when I do shouts. As in the sound effects from the shout are there but the Fus Ro Dah or other shout words aren't. None of the other sounds seem to be affected. Something really strange is that Aela's voice and dialog works fine.

I see this was posted a long time ago and didn't get any responses. Did you ever find a way of solving it?

I recently discovered this problem after doing the HD texture fix.

If you replaced the archive line in Skyrim_default.ini it may have been missing a piece.

sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa

sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa

^^^

this is what it should look like.

I have seen various fix pages that excluded the "ResourceArchiveList2" which includes the voice.bsa.

I'm not sure what affect this has on how the game works, but I do know that after I fixed this the voices were all back to normal.

Hope this helped.

Aha...it figures, the one time in recent history I was lazy and copied an .ini edit it was missing something. Thanks :) This was quite useful in making my Skyrim a more talkative world.

I just wanted to say thanks for the fix! I was wondering why everyone in Skyrim had suddenly become mutes. I had completely forgotten that I edited the ini. Also, my Skyrim_default.ini was fine; it was my Skyrim.ini in the My Documents folder that I had apparently messed up, so be sure to check both. Just a reminder for anyone else that googles "NPCs won't speak" and gets this thread.

Hey, thanks for responding, I actually figured the problem out myself and it didn't turn out to be what you mentioned. It was something a lot rarer than that cause I pretty much found nobody else with the same problem. It turned out somehow my voices.bsa file wasn't complete, (don't ask me how this happened I have no idea) but anyway, I had installed Skyrim on an older computer and it worked fine the whole time and then it was about a week after I got a new computer and had installed skyrim that suddenly about half the people in skyrim didn't have voices. It wasn't everyone which was something in contrast with most other cases I found on the internet. anyway I compared the file size of the voices.bsa on my new comp to the size of the voices.bsa file on my old comp(the one the voices worked on) and found it was half the size. so i just copied the one from the old comp and replaced the one on the new comp and that fixed it :D I was so totally happy. I'l never complain about all the "...till I took an arrow in the knee" s again :P

Anyway again thanks for the response! Maybe my problem will help some other unfortunate soul out there tired of the silence.

I've tried the fix above but it doesn't seem to change anything. I've recently updated to the 1.8 patch and ever since then I've had this issue. All the other sounds are fine, but the voices are still missing :(
