zappa45
After playing Skyrim all I seem to be thinking is that the interface between the player and the avatar is totally frustrating and needlessly cumbersome. The cursor and the crosshairs are sluggish and feel strangely rubbery even on the fastest settings. Opening a chest with one button, searching with another and closing with yet another makes one weary and wondering where is the simplicity of Morrowind and Oblivion. Why change that which has always been perfect with the game. This is just something that has been bothering me and maybe there is some way to fix these things but why should we have to? I do know that the x-box controls are a bit better but the cursors and crosshairs are still sluggish. The pc controls which were always solid and crisp and easy to operate with minimum movement across the board are just not there and it is making me more and more frustrated as I play. I was wondering if anyone else is feeling this or noticing the sluggish interface. I could also use my plain jane character sheet back and my trusty item bag instead of ......this.
zappa45
I have read in another topic that part of the problem with the mouse crosshairsis due to the x/y axis of the mouse not being equal or in sync in the game. Why this was done I'll never understand but the y axis isn't responsive even on max settings it takes a lot of table to look up. Looking for a fix to this now. bben46
/begin rant :rolleyes:My guess is that Bethsoft rushed the game to make their self imposed 11-11-11 deadline. And one of the major casualties of that hurry to get it out at all costs was the PC user interface. It looks like they 'assumed' that anyone who wanted to play it would (or should) have an xbox gamepad hooked up to their PC. They even made the gamepad the PC default control instead of the PC standard keyboard/mouse used by the vast majority of PC users. And once they made that assumption, just ported what they could - more or less haphazardly into the keyboard/mouse control. Once again making the PC version a red headed step child version of the consoles. First be sure the gampad is disabled. (unless you do use a gamepad) Then do what you can to redefine the keys into something a little more user friendly. Hopefully a mod will be able to fix the mess they made of the PC version UI./end rant
soot00
Yah it is a bit clunky and took me a few to get used too. I do like the new inventory management system, far qucker to see or find what you are looking for.
erc1971
Agreed. The PC user interface is really affecting my enjoyment of the game in a negative way. I would much prefer we just had the vanilla Oblivion interface (with the ability to hot key 8 spells as well!). Eric

DZ302
Why don't you guys just go play Xbox or something? Skyrim suffers from the same mouse acceleration and pre-rendering frame input lag that all TES/FO Gamebryo games do, there are countless guides on how to get rid of mouse lag in Oblivion, FO3, FONV and Skyrim. Also I for one like this interface infinitely times more than Oblivion, you can still hotkey skills 1-8, how did you not figure that out? Add item or Skill to favourites, press Q to open favourites, mouse over what you want and press a hot key, it's now bound. I guess it is a pain that there is a different button to open, loot and close...but that's beneficial in a way so you don't accidentally double tap a button and do something you didn't mean to. Either way E, R and Tab are all close and next to W, it should be natural to put your hand in that position everytime you loot. stars2heaven
I agree with DZ302. The only thing I'm disappointed about so far with the UI is that I had to rummage around the ini to ge things sorted out with the mouse. Other than that, the UI is far better than anything Oblivion or Morrowind ever had. I don't find it clunky at all, quite the contrary, I find it rather efficient. I'm not really understanding all the complaints tbh. Edited November 12, 2011 by stars2heaven
James009
Agreed, the UI needs a little work. However, it's not outside the range of a patch if we complain enough, I think it'd be an easy fix. Also, at least it's better then Fable 3's interface... I can't stand accidently closing my inventory, storage, and shopping due to a misclick or hitting the wrong key or the game not updating what hotkey does what or the hotkey conflicts. GRRRrr!
