kitsuneshoujo
I was totally squeeing with excitement when I first played this game the other night. Its SUCH a huge improvement over the other flavours of TES.

JanusForbeare
With all this talk of influences from other Bethesda titles and mods, it boggles my mind that the devs nerfed the "hardcore" mode from New Vegas. Hunger/sleep/thirst mods have been some of the most widely used modifications from both Oblivion and Fallout 3, and yet it's one area of gameplay that has been conspicuously overlooked in Skyrim. What I find even more baffling is that despite this, the devs took the time to build a complex crafting system that includes cooking. Why cook if you don't need to eat? After all, anyone who wants consumables that heal HP is better off practising alchemy.

It's kinda like the people who want to scale the map so it takes a few hours to actually walk anywhere. Some people like it, others dont, so why program it in. CalibanX
I really like the cooking system. It's there because it's fun and helps with certain roleplaying concepts. For instance, my next character I play is going to be a hulking, barbarian Nord who will have absolutely nothing to do with Alchemy. He's a barbarian. Barbarians don't give a crap about fussy stuff like magic & alchemy. Instead, he's only going to use Meat & Mead in combat. I can't wait to try him out. :)

I agree, and I have no problems with the inclusion of the cooking system. It adds a certain realism to day-to-day life in Skyrim. However, if the main reason it was included in vanilla Skyrim was to provide a RP alternative to alchemy, why not go the extra mile and include an optional hardcore mode? Having to hunt and forage to stay alive adds a hell of a lot more immersion to your RP experience. *sigh* Guess there's nothing to do but wait until a Skyrim version of "Real Hunger" is released. Balakirev
Love the crafting elements they have added...... Need to add arrow crafting though, loved doing that in OB To stay on topic, those came from Morrowind mods. Two mods that specifically allowed you to tan hides, gather and smelt ore, etc, to make weapons and armor of various sorts. Cooking was in Morrowind mods, as well. Houses for players came from Morrowind mods, as did companions, noted above.

Some people like it, others dont, so why program it in.They programmed in the "ability" to get married, which has less of a game play effect than a "real needs" hardcore mode. I must have missed the general hue and cry for including marriage... yet there it is, in it's gimped, useless glory. If this was one of the hints they took... boy did they cock it up. I'd have loved to see an actual romance system that mattered, or even worked in a realistic manner, but I can always play the Sims if I want to see it done right. *shrug* Bethesda got a "2" on their implementation roll. Critical Failure.
djinx187
Personally I would rather had them work on other parts of the game then bringing in some of the popular mods from the other games. It's nice they did add the stuff like bookshelves and the like but I honestly don't think it was worth it for how the quests came out. I would have rather had guild quests that felt not lacking then being able to get married and all that yada since I know somebody on here would have added those things sooner or later aaand they would have been done better and more then likely wouldn't of made things like flying backwards dragons happen(Safe bet with the modders on this site)
