Skyrim First Impression

Playing this on the XBox for now...

Does anyone else HATE the world map? I feel like I am having to fight it to look at what I want. What's up with the camera not orbiting fully. If I can't move the camera freely, I would really just as soon have a 2d map.

I hate the overly contrasted textures and the overdone HDR that blows out light colored areas. Not a big fan of the totally non-immersive menus. I like the perks menu though.

The characters often look absolutely horrible especially the alien looking elves. The greybeards look really bad. Their facial wrinkles are way over done.

Love the blowing snow effect... it's awesome.

I Pretty much like everything else. Considering that it's on a console, it's really amazing that they accomplished all they did. Overall it's an awsome game so far. I think I can overlook everything except the bad looking character modelling and texturing.

My toon is 16th level now. I've explored, done parts of the main quest and completed several side quests. I like the dynamic NPCs and the ability to improve weapons and armor. The shield bash 'attack' is pretty awesome and so are the kill camera shots. I hate the interface and the map. Chargen is really dumbed down and very limited compared to Oblivion and FO3. The default face options are horrible. Nothing in the game really grabs me the way I hoped it would. I'm just waiting for the Construction Kit so I can start making the game at least look the way I want it to and not be stuck with the consoler's version.

I just hit level 30 tonight. I've been playing non-stop (well, other than for work...and I've taken a couple days off....hehehe) since release. I was a huge fan of Morrowind, and Oblivion....I've been playing them both for years now.

And I am in LOVE with Skyrim. Yeah, it's got some glitches (This IS a Beth game, after all) and the interface could use some work (just waiting for the mods), but overall I think it's astounding. The world feels so alive...and all the little touches, such as companions having personal space issues, the random generated areas, the cameos of characters from past games, gathering and crafting....it fels so well rounded and fleshed out. How could I ever get bored?? There is so much to do, and explore, and we don't even have the creation kit yet.

I think I can safely say that I'll be spending the next few years of my life in Skyrim.

Well when I first booted it up(PC Version) the launcher went with low settings for the default! Now I admit my pc isn't top notch but I do have a quad core @ 2.4gh with 4 gb of ram and an older ati radeon HD 3600. Well when I started playing with the low settings the look was horrid. I exited and messed with the low, med, high & ultra settings and finally ended with a modified ultra setting that plays smooth and looks great. The UI bugs me to no end, I really hate not being able to click on stuff with my mouse but I have adapted. I havent remapped any keys or looked at my key bindings yet but I'm sure I will eventually. I think it's kinda weird that during the loading screens you can zoom in and rotate most of the objects they show but so far I can only do a quick zoom with no rotating of the things in my inventory. I've noticed that a lot of npcs walk around a little stiffly with their chest puffed up and that kinda bugs me, they should be more fluid IMO. The gameplay so far I really like although I think it's almost to easy to get too many quests. I guess maybe I have a little OCD when it comes to quests but I've done 12 so far(not including who knows how many miscellaneous quests) and still have 18 in my journal with 3 in the misc category. I do like that they have carts that will take you to a main city, even if you havent been there yet, if you don't feel like travelling on foot and it awesome the included duel wielding :) . A little disappointed that the CK is taking so long to come out but what can you do. All in all I've been playing for 5 days now with no crashes, a few glitches: npc getting spawned inside of rocks or buildings and a dungeon respawning critters and resetting a quest dialogue that was already completed(it was kinda funny though cause some of the npcs who were suppose to be working in the cave were running around scared to death and yelling for mercy and others were stalking and fighting the critters while spouting what sounded like bandit and marauder lines, lol), but nothing major to ruin it for me. For now I'll keep playing it as is and once I get that first run through, hopefully the CK will be out then the real fun of these kind of games can begin ;)
