is this happening to anyone else? no problems indoors so far but when roaming around outside i get a nasty stutter every few seconds then it goes smooth again. it feels like it could be a loading thing? i had the same problem in fallout 3 and new vegas

i tried the "framerate fix for ATI cards" from this site and it made no difference

ATI Radeon HD 5700 1 gb

4gb ram

intel core 2 duo 2.6 ghz

vista 32 bit

I'm not sure if I had the same exact issue.

I have an Nvidia card. When I would start up the game the open world is fine and smooth, but I would go inside a building and come out again and the outer world is lagging like crazy. I updated my video card drivers and the issue is now gone. Things are smooth inside and out.

when i first cranked the game, auto detect gave me ultra settings and i played for the night on that and it ran just beautifully

next day i walked outside a tavern into daylight and i could barely move it ran so crap

still does it on ultra but high runs like butter

i should also mention auto detect now only sets me at medium.

I have a Radeon HD 4350 which is besides the point seeing as it runs fine, apart from when i have a 5-10second freeze every so often when traveling outside. It reminds me of the 'Loading area' message in oblivion where the game used to stutter, is this still in the game but without a message?

I think the 5 to 10 second freeze is telling you that its NOT fine. The 4350 is a bit low for this game.

I said the card was besides the point! People are saying the same things on the official forums on rigs exceeding the recommend specs, so im hoping the next patch will make things better.

  • 4 weeks later...

Has this been addressed? I've been trying to fix this for a week straight and it's driving me mad. The worst spot I've found is cecermo's lab in markath museum, I get 45-60 fps but it constantly stutters. I've seen it in other areas but in that place it always stutter horribly. I've tried LAA, ENB series, disable vsync ini (doesn't disable it for me). I even set the game launcher to the maximum lowest graphic settings - nothing changes the stutter.

I think I have the opposite issue. It slightly stutters when I am inside. Not all the time, just on occasion.

It might be your cpu. This games uses it a lot. Especially to render shadows. Maybe that is your issue?

Mine seems worst on interiors too. Not only that but it seems areas where I hit lowest fps like towns don't seem to stutter at all while places like the lab where I am nearly maxing fps are the worst. My cpu isn't being maxed and I really don't think it's hardware at all since I tried running the game at low/minimum settings and had the exact same stutter.

I can somewhat live with most of it, it's a lot like new vegas but places like that lab are seriously distracting. Speaking of new vegas, I had mine modded with max HD textures, etc to about 17gb and I don't think it ran as bad as that skyrim lab.

I just finished trying this anti lag/fps limiter http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34 and it definitely made it better but not enough. Also causes screen tearing. I guess I should just be happy the whole game doesn't run like that lab.

I had this issue then I installed the 'memory fix', which allows the game to use more than the default 700 MB of RAM. Problem is all gone. It was horrible though. It would freeze up for 5 seconds at a time about every 10 or 20 seconds.
