Flamey
Okay Guys, I'll try to be precise with this little, yet unfinished, Tutorial... XWMA-Files. WMA & WAV Files can be converted to XWMA-Format, using this Executable.xWMAEncode.exe won't convert other File Formats than WMA & WAV, so you'll have to use another Converter to convert your MP3s to WAV, which maintains the highest Quality. You can use whatever Converter you want to, but I'd suggest using Audacity for converting Files to WAV. Just import or Drag'n'Drop the File into Audacity, then chose Export, WAV. [Maybe you'll need lame_enc.dll to encode MP3s in Audacity, but you only need to do that once. Here's how.] Now, using xWMAEncode.exe to convert your WAV-Files is as easy as this: Step 1:Copy all your required Files [WAVs, xWMAEncode.exe] to C:\Users\<YourAccountName> Step 2:Just hit Windows-Key + R, Type "CMD" and hit Return. Step 3:There's a black Console Window opening up now. Check? Check! Step 4:Type in "xWMA" and hit the Tabulator, it should cycle through all Files that start with "xWMA", should bring up "xWMAEncode.exe" sooner or later / right away. You could just type it in manually, though. This Procedure just assures it is existing and you don't have any Typos. Step 5:Then, hit Space once and type in the Name of the WAV-File you want to convert, don't forget adding ".wav" at the End. Step 6:Should look something like this:C:\Users\YourAccountName> xWMAEncode.exe FileYouWantToConvert.wav Step 7:Now, just hit Space once more and enter the Name of the File you want to create with ".xwm" instead of ".wav" Step 8:Should look something like this:C:\Users\YourAccountName> xWMAEncode.exe FileYouWantToConvert.wav FileYouWantToConvert.xwm Step 9: Hit Return. Wait. You did it, if you didn't make any Mistakes. There should be the required XWM-File in the Folder now. Now, putting the File into the Game is the Part I'm still alittle unsure of, I'll try to create a Folder named "music" in Skyrim's Data Folder. There, you'll have to add the XWM-Files - I guess. But, for them to actually work, you'll need to know the exact Names and Directories of the Tracks you want to replace [easiest Way]. As far as I know, they can be found in Data \ Skyrim - Sounds.bsa. But, to be able to read this File, which basically is like a ZIP/RAR-File, you'll need the BSA Unpacker. It's a German Site, but the File you'll get is English, don't worry. Just click "Download" and you'll get it. Using the BSA Unpacker, you can read the BSA-Files in the Data-Folder, but you still have to figure out the correct Names for your new Music Files. [in the bottom right Corner, you can Sort by Directories.] I guess they'll be in Directories like Explore, Battle, Special, like we're used to have them, and start with "mus_" - for the Main Theme being "mus_maintheme" in the Directory "special". I didn't have a Look into it yet, but I will as soon as I'm back Home again, and update this Post. Another Note: You won't need to edit the .BSA-Files in any Way, just leave them alone, don't try to delete/rename anything there. If you did it right, it will work. Or I was wrong in the first Line. So, stick to the correct Directory Structure & Filenames:Skyrim \ Data \ Skyrim - Sounds.bsa \ music \ special \ mus_maintheme.xwm <- Original PathSkyrim \ Data \ music \ special \ mus_maintheme.xwm <- Replacement Hope that's going to work out.I just assumed, have to try it myself, still. Also, if you're messing with your Game, you may consider making a full Backup of the Game's Directory first! Like this:C:\ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ SteamApps \ Common \ SkyrimC:\ Program Files (x86) \ Bethesda Softworks \ Skyrim [backup] "Skyrim [backup]" is a full Copy of the Directory "Skyrim".Whenever something breaks, I have my Backup. thesapien
(peeing on everyone) Bben46, Moderator What if someone does a cover song, like Malufenix on YouTube, and a modder gets her permission to add it in-game, maybe also adding her in-game, to take requests while we're drinking mead? Feanoro
*rolls eyes* Apparently if you know a few guitar chords and have a camera you're the most interesting person alive. Biggest cliche of my generation. And mind you, there's some kind of obsession with the guitar, other instruments don't get nearly as much attention. Anyway, this was a purposeless rant, sorry. I'd also be interested in replacing most of my Skyrim music. When you're in a city or roaming around freely the music is great, but I'm getting tired of the ominous sounds when you're in a dungeon/cave/dwemer ruin/etc. I mean really, after you've visited your first 10 caves you want something more interesting. Maybe some uplifting tunes or a more energy building sound. Does anyone have a mod or program that knows how to do this (or at least most of this task) automatically? Cause honestly, manually converting all my music and trying to figure out how to replace it correctly is annoying, not to mention making backups and such.
