BenKenobe
Number one I do read terms etc, but nowhere selling this said by the way before you buy you will need steam, it is impossible to read something that isn't on the bloody shelf yet - I ordered this pre-release. The text stating steam on the box is barely 2mm high, that you must accept steams terms is even frikkin smaller. So to those who think Steam poses no risk, please send me a key to your house and let me come and go as I please rummaging through all your personal stuff. Incidentally I suppose that all your personal stuff getting taken on the 11th when Steam got hacked is no concern to you. Do I use windows update - actually NO, I let it tell me what it thinks I need then I read the tech note on Microsoft before committing, I work in the IT world .... and have done for 25 years. I'll do some Googling but please tell me more about these 'sandboxes' for steam .... ------------- Posted on V3 Hackers have compromised the systems of games developer Valve and stolen customer data from the firm's Steam gaming service. The company said that the intrusion took place last weekend and resulted in the defacement of Steam's forums and the breach of a database containing user names, email addresses, purchase history and billing addresses. Valve said that the attackers also obtained credit card numbers and passwords, but that this information was encrypted. "We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information was taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked," Valve said in a statement. "We don't have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless, you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely." Fhaarkas
If you're that bitter... there's always a "shady" version floating around. You just go to the Western Watchtower in midnight and there will be a Khajiit there.. Speak the password and he will let you in.. Be careful lest the guard will catch you.. BenKenobe
Bitter, how do you work that out, I protect my privacy and my system security, and that makes me bitter ... Unreal, all I can say, there are plenty of ways to protect without phone home BS. I clearly am the odd one out.
FoolyFooly
I clearly am the odd one out. Most people would probably take the hint, and start thinking "hey, maybe i'm being silly about all of this because everyone else uses it without issue". You seem to have taken the "i'm right and everyone else dosen't know what they're talking about, so i'll patronize them" route.

MikhailFaulken
Gee, for a guy who supposedly works in information security, you sure are uninformed about information security. How in the hell do you not know what a sandbox is, man? Why do you even have windows to your house, you know people can break those things with hammers! I think the point is that you're making a big fuss over something that is unlikely to cause incident. Before you go mentioning some "likelihood of having information stolen", know that if someone really wanted something from you, they would have taken it a long time ago. The reason steam requires a modicum of personal information are severalfold: -They need to know who the money is coming from, to help prevent future instances of theft.-Customers have to pay them somehow! And you can't just mail cash to the Valve offices and expect them to mail the developer their cut after that. It's not how it works.-It is a security measure on BethSoft's part to prevent theft without causing incident (it's not always-on DRM, it's more like proof of purchase)-If you don't like it, there are several, uh,m under-the-table methods of playing your game. Now, there's no way you could not have known about the steam thing beforehand. It was pretty much all over the gaming news sites that it would run on steam and would require steam for activation. You claim to be a fan of BethSoft's games? Well, Fallout 3 required GFWL! How could you trust that garbage more than steam?

MikhailFaulken
My aunt is like that. She thinks that every downloadable contains a virus, and that DLC might f*** up your PS3. The only DLC that f***ed up my PS3 was that one firmware update that bricked everyone's hardware one morning.
