saldu
You have to deal with steam exactly one time to validate your game, after that it's your choice if you want to keep using it. And I guess a hgh number of people who complain about steam use facebook :wallbash: And why does this trollthread get so much to eat....
Gibbo3771
steam uses a tiny amount of resources, takes 10 seconds to download and install, doesnt intrude on you when playing, can be set to offline mode after install so you can literally forget its even there, is great for screenshotting (saves screenshots in JPEG format by default), has great deals and offers on games every day, has decent forums and community, and you even get team fortess 2 for free. whats the problem? the fact its a LTD company and can literally shut up shop and take your 100s of $$$'s worth of games with them? Steam is a dodgy company to deal with but i gotta admit, they do have good prices on games if you dont mind not owning something you just payed for
MrTastix
And I guess a hgh number of people who complain about steam use facebook :wallbash: You must mean for privacy concerns, because you couldn't compare Steam's intrusive behaviour to Facebook's. "Intrusive" as in, I have to use Steam to play a retal copy of the game. Not "intrusive" as in it's got security loopholes in which all of my personal information can be viewed by everybody who wants to look.

Dreadarm
I have always enjoyed Bethesda's work, I have all the Elder Scrolls, finally Skyrim appeared this morning. Installed said DVD and I will not be installing Skyrim - EVER. I will not tolerate or accept Steam or any other 'phone home' derivative. Now the place I purchased it from refuse to accept its return using the 'you broke the seal' excuse and yet nowhere on the cover is it made clear that steam is a prerequisite - had I known this I would never have purchased. Anyone want to purchase said DVD & 'pre-order' map ..... LOL? first of all Phone home derivative? you have obviously NEVER used steam before. Second of all Steam does not cause, do any harm to your pc. It does not even limit the number of pc's you can install the game on, IN FACT not that i should say this in public I have 3 friends playing my copy of skyrim in offline mode. And I own over 160 titles through steam and have NEVER experienced any issues with ANY of the games aside from one which was fixed the following day after release and it was not even a steam issue. Steam is an account that you register your game to so that you can play it on ANY PC IN THE WORLD free of cd keys and shat. Also it guarantees you a copy of your game for as long as they are in business (better than the 1 year BS from D2D or other so called digital stores.) Steam also has VAC Anti cheat software and many other Great features such as a fully functional web browser and chat system. You need to Try it before you bash it because that is just ignorance ruling the stupid there. You should be happy that STEAM is extending a free digital copy of the game to someone who bought it through another retailer. Get over you ignorance and then mayeb... JUST MAYBE!!! you can enjoy one of the best games of this year!!! and if not? f*** I will buy your copy and send it to a friend who is not quite as dense to think steam is anything but a GREAT service provided to you for FREE!!! (well... when i say free i mean wrapped up nicely in the purchase price of your games. because nothing is ever truly free.) And also for the people who say things like Steam could just shut down and take your money and run? LOL. steam allows you to make physical backups of the games and put them on cd or on disk and if they were to go out of business it would not be their fault you didn't make backups. I personally spent 100 bucks on a 1 TB drive specifically to backup my games to. Any reasons Steam sucks is purely in the eyes of the user, its a great service. and steam is NOT required to play Skyrim... you can install the game and simply Launch oblivion from the EXE or one of the many custom launcher on the NEXUS mods site and STEAM will not even be activated. Why are people so dense? explain that to me please...

Pineapplerum
I don't know what the beef with Steam is with people. Unless you have a slow internet connection and it takes forever to download. I like the idea of my game data being saved so that if my computer has a break down, my info is stored on Steam and I don't have to start all over again if I forgot to back up my data.Anyway, I've had no issues with Steam. It's ashame to miss out on a great game and $60 because you don't like Steam.

Yeah, my favorite bit about steam is that I don't have to deal with discs anymore, I can download and not only is it on my computer, it's tied to my account.
