What's the point of yielding?

I have put a fair number of hours into the game now and I have noticed that often human enemies near death will lay low and call out that they yield. Yet if I have a companion of any sort, they will continue to slay them mercilessly. At first I thought this was just because I happened to have partnered up with complete sociopaths who kill without hesitation, but I have found that while alone I cannot seem to do anything with a yielding enemy. I can't talk to them, they just take a breather then stand up and keep trying to kill me. So what's the point in yielding?

Yes, they will just pant for a few seconds then stand up and try to kill you all over again.

I usually do not complain since it gives me time to ignore them for a bit and shoot the active targets. Once I get a stun off on the new bandit (Or whatever) I usually just finish the wounded mob off and go back to whatever I was shooting.

So it's not just me, this is how yield is supposed to work - by not doing anything at all? I hate to come off as yet another nitpicker, but the number of half-baked features I am coming across are starting to sour me on Bethesda a bit. Mods will fix it all, I'm sure, but since when was it our job as a community to do all the work of ironing out balance issues, graphical glitches and dead-end features that seem coded for and then not really utilised?

Was wondering the same thing. At first I thought it was just a foul bandit that tried to trick me, but after giving a chance of surrendering to some others, and always ending up having to fight them anyway, I went into sociopath mode and I don't even give them a chance to finish their pleas :pirate:

This "feature" indeed doesn't make any sense.

I just spent like 2min staring at your sig...That's awesome.

OT: Yeah, I don't get it either...I mean, it gives you a chance to run away I suppose? I feel bad killing off those drunkards on the roads but they just won't stay down :(

I actually experienced a valid yield at one point; I was fighting a troll and a Nord woman came running and helped me. Afterwards, she insulted me, I insulted her and we started fighting. I was winning, and she was almost dead, and yielded, so I sheated my weapon. Amazingly, she stood up, sheated her weapon and went on her way. I am not sure what the trick is, but yields appearantly does work if the stars align properly.
