7Freya7
Good day, My friend has build this great gaming desktop for me, but the temperature while playing skyrim of my GPU is getting really hot. I'm afraid a mod is causing the issue. The gpu temperature in vanilla skyrim keeps around 73c and with my mods, the temperature rise betweem 82-90C. I've downloaded this small program to manually control my fans, and even when I set the GPU fan at 100% (4100 RPM) the temperature won't get lower than 80C. I already checked the amount of dust and cleaned it. I always have 58+ FPS while playing though. My drivers are up to date and I am also running a few mods. See load order below. Surilindur
If you have visual modifications turned on in ENB, that will cause your temperatures to rise a little (or a little more). I have an R9 290 with non-reference air cooling myself (Asus), and the thing runs at about ~70 degrees celsius or less with a vanilla game, and jumps to 82 degrees celsius if I add visuals from ENB, and cranking the fan speed up does not seem to do anything for me, either, and it sits at around 82 until I close the game. Other games run anywhere from 50 to 80 degrees, with idle temperature usually being around 40 after using the computer for a while. I am not sure what GPU you have, exactly (R9 200 series has a few), but the reference model of the R9 290 I have, for example, apparently runs at around ~94 degrees celsius according to benchmarks (for example this: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7481/the-amd-radeon-r9-290-review/15). That being the reference model from AMD, and considering how AMD cards have quite the high maximum allowed temperatures (I think it was either close to or above 100 degrees celsius), I would say ~80 degrees is not that bad. Of course it can look a bit odd, and people might claim that AMD cards run hot, but for reference, the new GTX 1080 from NVIDIA (the reference cooled ones people have reviewed) seems to run at around ~80 degrees, too. So, I am not an expert by any means, but 80 degrees does not sound too uncommon. To me at least. You can make sure your case has a good airflow if it helps, and that the air the machine sucks in is not too warm. I usually make sure the hot air is pushed out of the case properly by fans before even thinking about using fans to push air into the case. My current case only has fans pushing hot air out, because non-hot air is automatically sucked in from some of the other holes in the case (that do not have a fan). That would be my thoughts in it, and I am not an expert at all. Just another customer with high-ish temperatures. I hope someone else can give you better advice. FMod
Lower your GPU voltage a little (you know how to do it, right?)Start at -0.05V below stock. AMD consistently sets their stock voltage too high, IDK why they keep shooting themselves in the foot like that. After you check out -0.05, if it's stable for a day or two, start lowering it by -0.01V each couple days, till you see artifacts or crashes, then get it +0.02V up from that point. That said, 82-90C is acceptable for AMD cards, they don't suffer from the solder cracking issues at these temperatures as NV cards do. But you'll be able to get it down to 85C, which is better, and keep your fan at 100% less of the time.
KornelTheGamer
if it's an AMD card, you should be fine, during my gaming sessions mine peaks at about 95 degrees celsius, and that is 2 years, every day, almost constant, and still works for 2 years
FMod
95 degrees is not fine. While AMD cards don't have the solder cracking issues NV cards do, 85-90C should still be the target during gaming except for momentary bursts. For NV cards, anything above 80C is bad and will often lead to accelerated failure (usually still after the warranty expires). Lower your voltage a bit and make the fan ramp up to 100% above 80C.
