Mercy

Something that's been bugging me in game is that it seems that every time an NPC falls down and asks for mercy, I don't actually have the option to not kill them anyway.

I am of course talking about the fact that even if I sheath my weapons and walk away, after a few seconds they regain some health and then proceed to try to kill me again.

I really like the mercy mechanic, but it would sure be nice if it actually worked.

Mod idea:

If you put away your weapons when an NPC begs for its life, that NPC turns friendly or runs away thanking you.

Another idea would be perhaps a pair of shackles as a "weapon" that if you use it on a foe in the mercy state you could bind them. You could leave them there, and they escape after so many hours unattended, or you could have them follow you to a prison, sell them as slaves, ect.

A very Honourable idea you have put forth. I'm uncertain how difficult it may be but I suggest such a noble concept

I don't think it'd work for ALL NPCs. If you have a cultist or necromancer begging for mercy, I would fully expect them to stab your back with an ice shard later. mercenaries I figure should have a decent chance of actually appreciating the mercy move... and bandits a slim one. Mercy actually working should be something that always has a chance to fail and sometimes has no chance to succeed depending on the NPCs.

I would love to see mercy work in a larger number of scenarios... I know for one that if a normally neutral NPC turned-hostile begs for mercy, there is a chance of them actually stopping the attack... For example, in the quest line that requires you to kill the husband of the vampire couple, the wife started attacking me- I beat her within an inch of her life, and when she begged for mercy, I sheathed my weapon. She actually went back to being neutral, even through I had just slaughtered her husband. Still, I was glad of the opportunity to actually spare someone.
