sirfeather
Me and a friend were talking about the basic magic game used in all elder scroll games. About how you have to be a certain level to use certain magic spells in the different arts. I was thinking though, wouldn't it be better if you could use any spell at any level, but how to do so with out making another pointless god mod? Simple add in a rebound system, based on your luck/knowledge of the art you may/may not get a rebound effect. The severity of said rebound would also depend on your luck and knowledge of the magic. Example say you got caught off guard in a oblivion gate. Your about to die but you realize I have this awesome summoning but I'm not quite skilled enough to be using this, with this mod the idea is if you feel lucky you could choose to use the spell and maybe collect the rewards from it or suffer the consequences of your ignorance. David Brasher
The hard-coding of Oblivion does not really work this way. I am not sure if it would be possible to do something like this. Certain things in Oblivion are highly moddable, and certain things can't really be changed. Oblivion is set up so that spells always succeed, unlike in Morrowind where you had the chance of failing if you were a poor mage and the spell was a tough one. Spells are not set up to rebound this way. I guess a script and additional spell would have to be written for every single vanilla Oblivion spell to get the rebound on that one spell, if the first problem could be overcome. But then the mod would not work for spells added by mods or spells made at the spellmaking altar. I wish Oblivion was set up more like Morrowind, because I have never liked the "always succeed at casting a spell" thing.
