Changing NPC clothes

only if you give them armor better than they already own. I guess you could swap the nif files around and rename them so that begger clothes look like other clothes, you would need to know a little bit about modding though.

Not true. You can give them gear of lesser quality and they will wear it .

IF you remove all the gear they have.

The hidden gear on most has to be revealed via console commands and can then be removed. THen you can equip them with whatever you like

to see.

commands to use.

select the npc in question from console:

showinventory

note the gear you wish to remove

removeitem (baseitemcode) 1 the 1 is the number of items of that code you wish to remove. It has to be used or command will fail.

if the npc is the sort you can not access a normal trade window so as to hand them the item you wish them to use or wear.

Use

additem (itemcode) 1 DO not include the parenthesis in these commands.

So, you can force someone to wear a dress or just plain clothing instead of heavy armor, whatever.

Note, some NPC's have a habit of respawning default gear but this is fairly rare. FNV and Fallout had a few such npcs. I'm sure similar

exist here in Skryim.

If you want a copy of that NPC's original gear to keep on hand just write it down for future reference or use

player.additem (itemcode) 1 where 1 is the number of items of that sort you want in inventory.

I finally got this to work, but...it was selecting the NPC that took a while to figure out. In this case my companion. Here is how I got this to work, might help a few folks.

First..remove everything from the NPC's inventory that you can...everything.

SELECTING THE NPC YOU WANT TO CHANGE:

Go to first person view...that is, you just see them through your eyes.

hit the ' tild ' key...it is above the TAB key, you will see the lower part of your screen darken.

Now, 'click' on the NPC you want to work with. Once you click, you will see the NPC's ID number.

Now type....showinventory You should see what the NPC has, or wearing with ID numbers.

Hope this helps.

I changed the armor for my companion.

I couldnt get this to work with additem but found out there is an equipitem command that works much better. It's just equipitem (itemcode). No need for the quantity.

Funny, I could not do this. Here is what I did and it worked.

After I used the ' removeitem (along with the item ID and quantity) his armor dissapeared. In fact, he was invisible on his body.

I then hit the ' tild ' key again and brought back my normal screen.

Then I ' spoke ' to him and then gave him the armor I wanted him to wear...it worked! The armor I gave him showed up and he was wearing it.

hmm..I guess this is directed at me? No, no mods at all. Since I'm playing a male Imperial, There really isn't a good male nude mod available yet. When I removed the armor on Vorstag, his body went invisible. The new armor has stayed on and seems to be working fine. To be frank, I figured he would show with his loin cloth but that didn't happen. So far, so good....

And it's to damned cold to be running around in the buff, I am the 'Barefoor Warrior' after all.....not in this game! Just thought I'd throw that one in there. LOL!

EDIT: oops, I lied, I am using one mod, a smooth skin texture for the body and face. Forgot about that.
