Creating a new static interior object - with Collision data

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I have a base NIF created using 3DS Max and Elrich.exe. It views fine in NifSkope, but it's lacking in any Collision data and some other items that are probably important.

So what do I use to fix this? NifTools instantly crashes when I do a Convert operation on it.

I'm a little fuzzy on the 'Template' feature, but I'm trying to use an extracted NIF that's similar in side and texturing.

All the tutorials and help I've found on this is either outdated, or using some other operation that I don't need.

(Really, guys. This is a WALL. It shouldn't be this hard... )

Mind sharing how you created collision before passing thru elric? It needs the collision created in max 2013 first, then passed thru elric to convert it to F4 working object.

I thought that I could use NifUtilsSuite to generate collision data, that's why I'm trying to run it through. I know ChunkMerge does that, but is it not valid for FO4?

This is the model. I chopped the geometry off the end of 'vltoutsideentrance-1.nif'. I could go back and 'skin' the surfaces and elminate the convex parts, but do I really have to?

Is it possible to pull collision geometry out of existing NIFs? That would be the easiest thing.

Seeing the comments on beth's tread regarding the tools, seems like the skyrim tools are not fit for the job, at least not now. You'll need their official tools to perform a satisfying job.

You can copy the collision from another nif, of course, but you'd have to either find a similar shape, or lots of smaller ones to fill in the large one.

Yeah, I think I did read something about needing a full-featured set of Havok tools, which requires many dollars. Guess that's what it meant. Thanks!

that's for animations. For collisions you need max 2013, and you can get the student version of 2014-2017, then ask for an extension to 2013 from autodesk. There, 3 years of 2013 :)

Thanks, Ethreon, I do have MAX 2013. However.

According to what people were saying on the Beth.net forums in April of this year, creating collision data for FO4 static objects is actually impossible, for various reasons that Bethesda can't seem to fix. So there.

FINAL EDIT:

That's completely incorrect. Beth gave us their plugin. You need max 2013, the beth provided plugin installed after you install max, elric set up correctly and you're good to go.

That's true, but you'll see from this discussion that it's damned hard to deal with. Have you had a different experience?
