Poor Performance pls verify settings

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just finished Skyrim last weekend and had to fill the gap. So I settled for Oblivion.

Back in the day my hardware wasn't able to handle the game and well, my current pc seams to have the same problem. at least with the essential/recommended mods.^^

Everything was fine (stable 45-50fps) till I reached the first city (imperial city?). The framerate dropped to ~15-20fps.

After reading some performance guides and overclocking my cpu, I get up to 35fps but it still drops to about 18fps from time to time.

So here is my question: Could you please verify my settings and choice of mods? It would be great to run it at +30fps stable.

My Hardware:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1055T (6-Cores...)

Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3

RAM: 12GB

GPU: Nvidia GTX 970 3,5/4GB

SSD: Crucial MX 100 (just for Steamgames; OS is on another SSD)

Multi-threading options via oblivion.ini:

iNumHavokThreads=7
iThreads=9
iOpenMPLevel=10
bUseThreadedBlood=1
bUseThreadedMorpher=1
bUseThreadedTempEffects=1
bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1
bUseMultiThreadedTrees=1
bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen=1
bUseBackgroundPathing=1
bUseBackgroundFileLoader=0

The CPU respectively the single core performance seams to be the bottleneck, cause the graphic card is freezing cold, RAM is free and the I/O on the SSD is very low.

It's especially frustrating cause Skyrim runs at stable 60fps with mods, but of cause it has an more up-to-date engine...

Stutter Remover, try to enable the heap replacement. I had the best results with the algorithm 1. You need to look for a file though.

Here the name and sha256 hash of the file I use:

7fcd1d51e9f3c319b878d4ec857af0119dee278eb5a352220e44290081a6f7db  borlndmm.dll

And yes, the Oblivion engine sucks, the Skyrim one sucks less.

Besides, Better Cities is indeed a resource hog. You might want to consider Open Cities Reborn and ImpeReal City. At least in my system they perform better.

Hello,

I see nothing wrong.

For me this fps is normal. With Better Cities this is not surprising to have 15/20 fps in the Imperial City (with a lot of NPCs) or in the IC Waterfront. This mod is very resource hungry.

As you said Oblivion only use 1 CPU core and has an old engine. I am afraid it will be hard to do better in this area, no matter how strong is your PC, unless you uninstall Better Cities, or optimize textures and meshes with some tools.

This is out of subject, but I highly recommend to use Wrye Bash to install Oblivion's mods. (NMM doesn't work with all Oblivion mods).

And also I recommend to use the "4GB Patch" (allows Oblivion to use more RAM), in case you plan to heavily mod this game.
